Hi everyone. Im happy I found this site. I
read that this is rare. If it is rare, Im
at least glad that there are a lot of
other women who's experiences I can learn
from. Im 20, never had sex (waiting till
marriage) and this is my second cyst in 2
months. The first time, went to the er,
got it incised and drained. HURT LIKE
CRAZY. Took antibiotics for a week. Took
sitz baths. The cyst went down but guess
what? Got a yeast infection. After all of
that, I could still feel a tiny bump but
just prayed everyday that nothing would
come from it. This morning, to my horror,
I discovered it again. I took two hot
baths today but it just seems to be
getting worse. Im going to my gyno first
thing in the morning. I want to have this
gland removed once and for all. Im scared
my doc will try to speak against it but i
dont want to try other treatments (ie
catheter, marsupialization) if i still
might get it again. I just want to know
about how long is the recovery process? I
am currently on my spring break and i have
travel plans. I understand that I might
have to cancel them but if the biggest
part about the surgery to have the gland
removed is pain afterward, i can deal with
that. Anyone please feel free to share ur
recovery experiences. Thanks.

i just hope antibiotics will still work
for me, since this is my 2nd time...
the thought of surgery really scares me
alot...
will the lump go away even without
draining it, considering this is the 2nd
time?

If you are lucky, it will go away. I'm on
my 4th and it seems to go away with
antibiotics and ibuprofen, it always did.
Good luck and tell me if you feel better
in a few days!

bartholin cyst support group Posted: 03-07-08 15:27pm
Hi. I just wanted to let you know that
there is a support group for women, like
us, suffering from bartholin cysts. They
offer support, advice and just a place to
go when you feel like you are at your
witts end!
Go to yahoo groups website and then type
in bartholincysts ( this is all one word )
into the search box.

bartholin cyst worries Posted: 03-14-08 11:54am
I had my bartholin abcess removed last
friday and er doctor placed word catheter
in it..really dont want to mention the
hell of pain ive been through having the
abcess and the catheter in it..
since i dont have the insurance, im just
wondering if theres a need for a doctor to
remove the catheter or will jusst wait
until it falls of naturally?
Is sex or std the cause of it? ive known
my partner for 3 months and weve been
doing sex regularly..what i remember the
last weekend before i have the cyst is
that i shave my vagina and had a cut on it
and we did sex after that..hopefully its
just a bacteria that went in..not through
std..
this is my first week after the surgery,
still taking lequavin antibiotics
though..not feeling that much pain ..HOPEFULLY
this cyst will not recur..

About two years ago, I had an abcess on my
bartholin gland. It started out as a cyst
but then turned into an abcess. The pain
was horrible and lots of puss was oozing
out of the abcess. I went to an urgent
care center and was treated with levaquin
and given vicodin for pain. The levaquin
seemed to do its job but unfortunately it
caused me to become ill with
pseudomembranous colitis, a complication
from the antibiotic. Pseudomembranous
colitis is no fun, so I hope none of you
develop this complication. Just watch out
for foul-smelling diarrhea, abdominal
pain, and fever. If you notice these
symptoms post-antibiotic use, you should
probably see a doctor. Pseudomembranous
colitis is usually treated with more
antibiotics. If you want more
information, visit:

s
I suppose it is also worth mentioning that
I was a virgin when I developed the
bartholin gland cyst/abcess.

word catheter-horrirble bartholin cyst Posted: 03-15-08 11:11am
this is my first week of having a word
catheter inside me after it was
drained..nurse said yesterday it was
healing, but i refused to had it removed
since ive been reading forums that
catheter stays there for about 3-6
weeks...
hope staying the catheter there for along
time will not cause any infection since
ive been taking antibiotics and having
warm towel compress after i pee...

Well...the pain you have is because the
area is still very sensitive. I alsow
discovered that because of this bartholin
cyst, we have problems with lubrification
(sory for the mistakes, I'm romanian and I
try my best to write). You should try some
lubricants, Durex for example. I am tired
of this problem because it seems like it
just doesn't dissapear. I had about 4
abcesses and they all went down with
antibiotics so far. I don't know what to
do to stop them reoccur. I am so depressed
when I find no cure... I guess I should be
happy I had no surgery so far, thaks God!
I hope we'll have no problems in the
future.

thanks again Posted: 03-20-08 16:03pm
thanks again theother... i have posted
another inquiry regarding my pain, since i
observed that after bartholin's i'm having
difficulty in getting myself
lubricated...
now i think i got the answer. the reason
of my problem with lubrication is because
of my recent bartholin's.
i hope it will really get well soon, im
also tired of this discomfort!
I have been dealing with Bartholin Cysts
for about 4 years. I am 30 years old. I
just had one removed through surgery in
January 08. The surgery and recovery were
not painful. I was fully recovered within
4 weeks.
Unfortunately, a new cysts has formed on
the other gland. This one turned into an
abscess and I had marsupialization. The
pain was so unbearable before I had it
drained. I am now on antibiotics again and
doing the sitz baths. My doctor says that
it will likely reoccur and I will have to
have surgery again.
It was bad enough having one that would
not go away and had to be drained twice
but having a second is unthinkable. I
fully support surgery and I am glad that I
have a doctor willing to remove these
cysts.

Hi Posted: 03-28-08 13:14pm
I have been having problems with Bartholin
abscesses for over 7 years now. They are
the most painful things. I really can't
take this anymore. My doctor has tried
everything under the sun to keep thid from
coming back but it always does. The only
option i see left is to remove the gland
completely. But the doctor dosen't want to
do the surgery? How can I convince him?
Does anyone know how to prevent this? This
is very painful and I feel like such a
freak.
I got a Bartholin cyst, the size of a golf
ball. I got it after a Bikini Wax so I
think something happened that was very
irritating. I tried the Sitz baths and
nothing...even several times a day...and
nothing. I was very worried, I am over 40
and really didn't want to go to the doctor
because I know they would do something
harsh and test me for cancer. So I waited
and waited and it went away after about 4
months. It has been 1 year since that
happened, so it looks like it is gone for
good. I am posting for all the women who
are excessively worried about this. If it
doesn't hurt, it is not infected, you
don't have a fever, you feel
fine...etc...I suspect that for 99% of
women it eventually goes away. I didn't
even take baths anymore. I think exercise
helped, because it seemed smaller after
yoga or running, and then it would come
back and then one day it was the size of a
pea and then a couple days later it went
away for good. There is a reason we have a
gland, if you go to the doctor and they
damage it or excise it, then you are
opening yourself up to the consequences of
that and a life of discomfort or worse.
