My husband broke his ankle on 10-18-04, we
went to the e.R. Where they x rayed him
and told him he only had a sprain, follow
up in 2 days with xxx Dr. Well 2 days
later I called to follow up- I was told
the soonest appointment was 6 days away-
well I told them that I believed the ankle
was broken not sprained she replied with
well you should have called 2 days
ago---we went to our pcp and she said yup
looks fractured you need to go to a
specialist- 1st specialist looked at e.R.
X rays and said yes definitely broken- and
ordered results from e.R. About the x
ray. The report says comminuted fracture
as well as avultion...He took more xrays
and said he thinks surgery is needed but
he diesnt do surgery so off to another
specialist. More xrays taken now we
needed an mri- 3 days later we were told
he needed surgery. 3 days after that he
had surgery. Now it is nov. 4th.
I filed a complaint against the follow up
doctor for not acting with any type of
urgency and perhaps causing this long
delay in treatment.- who should have
notified me of the discrepency of the
diagnosis and the x ray report?
Thank for any input- p.S. Since my
husbands job does not have disabilty
benefits, this delay in treatment has cost
us a lot more than just time!
