When I went to the doctor for the first
time during this pregnancy I was nine
weeks pregnant. My baby looked healthy
during the ultrasound. A few days later I
started having stomach cramps so I went to
my doctor the next day. He did an
ultrasound and sent me to the hospital to
have another one done that would show a
better picture. They could not find a
heartbeat, but my baby has grown since
then. Is it possible that it is too early
in the pregnancy to tell? I have another
baby and my pregnancy was very sucessful.
How could this one have went wrong? My
doctor sugest a dnc, should I have one or
wait? Please help!

Dear tonya,
you should be able to see a heart beat at
9 weeks on an ultrasound, and if they
couldn't then that is not a good sign. It
is up to you whether or not you wish to
wait another couple of weeks to have
another ultrasound to detect your baby's
heartbeat. If your baby is not growing or
is not alive you will most probably
miscarry sometime soon anyway. If you are
feeling fine, not bleeding and no cramps,
then I would probably give it a chance.
It may be ok. Signs of a threatened
miscarriage to watch out for are heavy
bleeding, blood containing tissue or
clots, abdomen pain, and especially lower
back pain. Good luck, I hope everything
works out ok for you.
