Periods And Pregnancy!
Posted: 11-17-04 09:52am

I should just take a pregnancy test or go to my ob instead of posting my question...

Here's the deal...My period came the day after I had sex with my husband. We've not been using any kind of protection (we want to have a baby), but because my period came the day after we had intercourse does this mean that more than likely i'm not pregnant? I've read all sorts of things in regards to this subject, but no one seems to know for sure if you can really have a period if you're pregnant. I've heard that some people have light bleeding or spotting, but my period was about 5 days early (i'm usually pretty regular), and then it only lasted for 4 days (it usually lasts for 5 or 6 days). If anyone has good, medical reasoning or explanations or suggestions, please let me know. Thank you!

Yes u can have periods while preg. I had a friend who had one for the first 3 months. And there was a post on here about a girl who had it for her entire preg. Not usual, but is poss. I'd say keep looking for signs!

I wonder if the little things i've been noticing is just me being hopeful (or if it's coincidence) or if i'm truly pregnant. I urinate a lot, I feel so tired throughout the day, and I cramp a little in my abdominal area.

Ok, so tell me this...When is the best time to try to get pregnant? I've heard it's a certain number of days before your period and then other people say that no, it's after your period.

Im just curious about how the women who have periods during their preg. Find out their preg? My breast get swollen and sore before my period, then go back to normal once it starts. For women who have their period during preg. Do their breast stay larger and sore after their period ends? And how do you find out your preg. If your having your period??
Because I know a lot of pms symptoms are the same as preg. Symptoms.

Ive read its really not a period, its just some bleeding.

I'd like to know that, too, jar81. I'm tempted to go buy a pregnancy test today and end this thing once and for all!

You should just take a hpt to ease your mind. Im always worried about pregnancy and take tests just to ease my mind. Although I haven't had sex since sept.6, and had a blood preg test done on oct.21 which came back neg., im still worried im preg. Even though I had a period on sept.21 & oct.20, and just started bleeding today. However, I am on bcp, use condoms, and my fiance has a condition that may prevent him from having children. But of course I still worry Smile as soon as I woke up today my breast didnt hurt any more and their pretty much back to normal size, (happend all the other times), so im guessing if I were preg. They would still be swollen and sore.

If you go to allexperts.Com, you can personally ask someone (professional or expert your ques.) id suggest asking Dr. Lawrence jay rappaport m.D. In the health/gyno section. He usually gives very clear and informative answers.

I.E. "since you got your period on sept.20 and again on oct.20, and you have not had intercourse since your last period, you cannot be preg....

"if you get a period, you are not pregnant"

"if you have a normal 28 day cycle (from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period) ovulation occurs on cycle day #14. You can only become preg. If you have unprotected sex on cycle day #13, 14, 15, or 16. You cannot become preg. On any other day of the cycle."

even webmd, has a lot of informative ppl. Most say though, if you have a period than most likely your not preg.

Im not trying to upset you, im just trying to clarify for you (and myself), that its almost impossible to have a period and be preg. But I guess its not totally impossible. So I would take a test and if you still think you are, see your doctor.

Hope some of this helps.
Best of luck!

I don't know if my question relates to this topic ... But I had unprotected sex last thursday, and I got my period on saturday --2 days after. I have a regular 28-day cycle, and saturday was exactly the 28th day. Is it still possible to get pregnant even after getting my period? What are the early symptoms of pregnancy? Please help! I was going to take ecs, but since I got my period, many people said that I don't need to take emergency contraceptive. But is it still possible to get pregnant? I do want to have a baby .. But not yet ... Maybe in a few years. If any of you know anything, and would reply to this message, i'd really appreciate it... Thanks. Smile

Yeh I enquired on the website, this is he's reply to my situation...

My situation: I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend on the second day of her period (sic I know, but don't flame). It only lasted 5 min and we stopped, only pre-cum.

Lawrence answered: he doesn't believe that there is a chance of pregnancy to occur on the second day. Only when unprotected sex occurs on days #12 #13 #14 #15#16 (around those days) you can get pregnant. Not even hormone alteration can get you pregnant. (he was refering to a 28 day cycle)

one thing I don't get about this answer is what about the people who got pregnant during their periods... Perhaps some of these people didn't have their period, but rather ovulation bleeding mistaken for their periods?

Periods In Pregnancy
Posted: 03-11-05 05:07am

I dont know if anyone knows the answer to this one. I thought I may have been pregnant about 2 months ago, since then, my periods have been all over the place I have no idea anymore when my period is coming, as my breasts are sore pretty much all the time. My periods, are lighter than usual, and only last for about 3-4 days, when I used to be on a period for about 5-6 days, sometimes longer. I have done a test but it is negative, but the reason I am unsure, is that my nan had periods throughout all her pregnancies, from start to end, is it hereditry. I know it sounds stupid that I have done a test and it is negative, and I am still wondering, but if it is some sort of hormone imbalance, would the hormone show anyway? I am completely confused now, my periods are more irregular now, than when I came off of the pill 3 years ago.

I suggest you don't listen to "dr." rappaport. He has been giving false information! You do not always ovulate on day 14, you do not always have a 14 day lp... I can go on and on with the false info he has been spewing. Get "taking charge of your fertility" or go to fertilityfriend.Com for better info.
