Itchy Red, Raised Bumps/rash: Allergy Or Something Worse?
Posted: 11-18-04 14:24pm

Hi everyone, can somebody help me? Sad

i am a very active healthy 20-year old. I've never had any kind of allergic reaction before, but about a week ago, I started getting red bumps starting around the 'bikini area' and now I have these bumps (hive-like) on my inner arms, upper arms, hands, fingers, legs, armpits, neck, feet, abdomen, back and head (none on the face...Yet??). I have seen 2 doctors and they said it was an allergic reaction to something unknown. I have been using hydrocortisone cream, gold bond itch cream, and have been taking reactine and benadryl and having baths with baking soda, but nothing is working! The rashy bumps are getting redder, itchier, and are spreading. I thought if this is an allergic reaction, wouldn't it be gone or getting better by now? It's been over a week.

Does anyone know what this is, or if I should try something else or just go back to the Dr.? Any ideas or feedback is welcome, and you can email me at ba ckontrack_1@hotmail.Com

thanks!!

It is definitely an allergic reaction of the body either internal or external exposure. Is there any itching, irritation, redness, swelling of the affected areas and does it go down on its own to appear again in a short while?

Homeopathic medicine has good remedies like apis mel, urtica urens, bovista, dulcamara, rhus tox etc. To see that the rash subsides.

Sounds like overuse of laundry detergent all over again. Really rinse your clothes clean and wash with baking soda.

Hi, I know exactly what your going threw. About 6 months ago I went threw it, I am not big on going to the doctor, but my condition got worse than just the hives. At one point in time, my lip would swell, my eye and the last straw was my trachea. It was so irritating , the itch and the swells would get large and larger. I was so frustrated and I felt so helpless because no cream would help. The bad news is the trigger is unknown, but I started getting allergy shots once a week and this helped, I havent had hives in quite some time now..

I realize you posted about a month ago, but I had a rash in similar areas. I was diagnosed with having mono. The doc gave me a really strong steroid cream, and it went away within days. I hope you haven't been suffering since then. I was misdiagnosed for a terrible six weeks. Hope you're doing well.

Did you ever find out what this was? Was it an allergic reaction?

I was wondering if it was hand, foot, & mouth? Are you around preschool kids by any chance?

Have you considered the possibility of scabies? Its normally sexually transmitted, but can be contracted through just sitting on a couch etc. Its very annoying but harmless, and is cured by a cream containing permethrin (a pesticide). Its not a disease, but rather a microscopic mite that irritates your skin. It usually affects mostly your arms, legs, fingers, etc, but not your face. Ask your doc.

Tired of Being Itchy

I am covered in itchiness everywhere except my face and my feet. I don't know if it's the sun, or if it's allergies, or what. Mine started when I moved from kc, ks to madison, wi four years ago.
I have a friend of a friend who lived in wi his whole life, and was inflicted with bad itchy skin problems the entire time. He moved to flastaff, az, and it cleared up in two weeks, and has never returned. He says it's some kind of mushroom spore that comes from the upper penninsula of michigan. Anybody heard of anything like this?
I also spend most of my sleeping time and awake time scratching, and am covered in scabs from all the scratching. Doctors have no idea what's wrong, and the steroids aren't working anymore. Help is needed if anyone has it. I really don't know how much more I can take.

Re: Rash/hives!

Hi everyone, incase this helps!

I've had allergic reactions for several years now. I used to have my trachea swell up so I couldn't breathe properly, then this calmed down. Then, suddenly, I got hives all over my body. Mostly chest, upper legs and back. They were so so itchy and would get worse if I itched! Big swells.

Anyway, I went to an alternative therapist to try to figure out what it was. I'd thought it was milk and cut it out, but it wasn't. The therapist suggested eggs/pasta, so I cut those out. No luck! The hives kept coming back.

I eventually figured out it could be mushrooms. I stopped eating them, and voila no more hives.

Yesterday after a few months hive and mushroom free, I decided to test it out with a ham & mushroom pizza. I got a couple hives/swells on my side and foot, and a nasty rash of tiny red, aggravated bumps on just the left side of my face. It's rough to the touch and hasn't gone yet!

I'm pretty convinced now it's mushrooms. No one could help me when I was looking for a cause, and when i've looked online there's been suggested cases of mushroom allergies but little research done into it.

So, following on from an earlier post suggesting mushroom spores being a cause, I suggest looking into mushroom spores/mushroom eating causing the hives.

Nb there's been a suggested link, that mushroom/spore allergy could occur in people also affected by hayfever/this causes hayfever. Not necessarily the case though.

Good luck, and all the best everyone!
