Q: Is Caffeine Bad For the Baby?

My sister-in-law is pregnant and she is loving anything that has caffeine like coffee and pop (soda). She is so tiny...About 100 lbs. I worry about her and the baby. So I was woundering if its really bad and I should tell her that she really needs to take it eazy and not to drink it so much. Would decaf coffee be better? Thanks.

I love my sodas. Caffine is bad so I drink caffine free. Anything caffine free is better even though its sometimes nasty. Bout the decaf ive got no clue on that. Hope that helps.

I drank decaf coffee, sounded smarter to me, at least you aren;t stuck craving something, if you crave something too bad it could put your baby in stress (i heard)

only one cup! As in 8 oz? No way
if it isn;t here I am fine, but myhusband drinks it and when it is here, so do i!! He can do without so I am sure I buy it for him under false pretenses (especially when I get like 4 2 lts and one is a soda he won;t even drink!!!) but soda really is good to settle your stomach, especially coke, pepsi, sprite and gingerale( is the best)
did you know that pepsi was originally invented as a cure for upset stomach? Dyspepsia is a medical term for upset stomach, nausea and indegestion?

Dyspepsia
n : a disorder of digestive function characterized by discomfort or heartburn or nausea

but remember, the caffiene free kind if you have to have it is always the best bet for you when preg!

Sorry, just thought I would put that out there

Ur not supposed to drink caffeine cuz it causes slow development of the babies brain. It can actually stunt growth, thats why children arent supposed to have it. However if b4 u got preg u drank it all the time, the docs tell u to just cut back. They dont want u to go off of it cold turkey cuz that causes bad side effects (headaches....)

Caffeine dehydrates. So, try to drink extra of other fluids. You don't want to be dehydrated, especially during pregnancy. Also, if you are prone to utis, a lot of non-caffeinated liquids for that. If she is undernourished then she should take special care in what she eats and drinks. Babies take what they need first. They will even take calcium from your bones and teeth! I'm sure her doctor will talk to her about whatever she needs to know. It's their job to make sure the baby and mom are thriving. I wouldn't say anything to her, because she might get mad. Women are emotional by nature and when you're pregnant it's like x10.Lol

The research shows that "moderate" caffeine use is okay. That's up to 400 mg of caffeine per day, which I believe is the equivalent of 2 or 3 8 oz sodas. More than that has been linked to developmental problems with the fetus, such as low birth weight. If you're drinking caffeinated drinks, or any sugary drinks, you should be sure you're getting adequate nutrition and fluid intake. That means drinking a lot of non-caffeinated drinks, too, and watching your weight gain. If you're drinking 3 sodas every day and you've put on 65 pounds in the first 4 months, you might want to switch to water. The empty calories in things like sodas and sweets don't help your baby grow and develop, they just cause you to gain weight.
