Question About Stunted Bone Growths Posted: 11-21-04 01:21am
Hi, first of all, I apologize if there's
more appropriate place for this topic.
I'm quite new to this and all these latin
words disorients me. Please direct my
question to more specified topic if
possible. Thanks.
Anyways, my question is about mandible in
general. Because two years ago, when I
was 17, I got kicked in the lower jaw in
taekwando sparring. It knocked me out
good right then and it hurt for months
afterwards where the jaw connects to the
skull- even now I can make popping noise
if I move the jaw certain way. But i'm 19
now and I notice that my jaw hasn't grown
much in porpotion to my face. I mean, it
doesn't look freakish or anything but two
years ago I used to have much stronger
looking lower face- jaw, chin, all that.
Could it be that my mandible growth got
stunted on that night of impact? Please
free me of this tormenting curiosity.
Thank you.

The clicking/popping sound you can make is
called voluntary dislocation. Your jaw
has not seated properly into your skull
and by tensing your jaw muscles and
opening/closing your jaw it will make that
popping/clicking sound...Although other
people probably can't hear it.
There is a chance it has stunted your
growth if your nerves were damaged,
although I don't think this is the case.
Sounds like you just got a solid headshot.
Chances are it is not related to your
taekwando injury.
