I've been taking ortho tri cyclen lo for
about 3 months now. I noticed just a
couple of days ago that the pill's
expiration date is nov/04. I started
spotting yesterday. Now i'm worried. Is
it still effective til the end of the
month? What should I do?

Break-through Bleeding Posted: 11-21-04 14:37pm
I used to be on that pill and found that I
had break-through bleeding every month
even though I used it religiously. It's
more of a nusense than a medical problem.
Most medications are safe to take a short
while after they expire, but they will
loose there potency after the expiration
date. I would be more concerned if it
were 6 months old rather that a few days.
Your body takes a while to adjust to a new
pill, so keep taking it and don't miss any
days. However, if you are still
experiencing bleeding, talk to your doctor
about changing to a stonger pill. And
call your pharmicist to tell them you
received expired medication and maybe next
time they will compensate you some how.
They should be made aware of the date.

You should be fine to finish that pack, but
get some current pills for the next
pack. Most meds are okay to take if they
are expired, birth control is not one that
I would take that chance with.Patty
