Confused About Genital Herpes
Posted: 11-21-04 15:11pm

Hi, i'm a 17 year old male and I found this forum because I was looking for an anonymous way to get some answers to a touchy question. Thanks for understanding.

I'm starting to worry that I may have gotten genital herpes somewhere. First, a little history: I have had one girlfriend, and she was my only sexual partner as well. We never had sex, but we did have oral sex. For about a year before this (therefore before I ever had any sexual contact), I have had some red marks around my genital area that sort of look like pimples or boils. They come and go, and they really really itch when they show up. When the red is gone, the rashes themselves are still visible as sort of like hardened skin that don't itch. The problem was never really all that bad until after my girlfriend and I became sexually active. If it matters, the red marks sometimes also are around my anus. I apologize for the graphic details but it might be relevant.

My question is this: how can I find out if it's an std? As far as I know my girlfriend (well now my ex girlfriend, not because of this reason though) does not have any stds and has never had oral sex with any of her previous partners. This is all going on what she told me. If it is herpes, I don't think I got it from her because like I said, the itching has been with me before we were together. Are there ways to transfer the disease from other things like showers or toilets? Also, is there any way I can see a doctor without my parents knowing? Is there any kind of confidential clinic or something I can visit? I'd like to get some answers and find out what this is because I don't want to play it off as nothing and risk infecting other people.

Thanks for reading, and sorry for the long post. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Check out planned parenthood or your local health department....It'll take forever but they'll do it free or at a very low cost...

So youre saying you had this problem before you ever had sex? Does anyone in your family have herpes that you know of?

Nobody in my immediate family has herpes, least that i'm aware of. If you're asking about my grandparents and so forth, like family line, I don't know because I was adopted.

I never had sex with my ex. I'm still a virgin so i'm wondering why I have this going on, i've recieved oral from her and I don't think she had any stds. This will sound odd, but does shaving pubic hair help this kind of thing?

Yes, go to like a local health clinic. I don't know enough about herpes to say. You can get stds from oral sex though.

I've heard it's also possible to get it from non sexual activity... Like showers and stuff, but I don't know if that's true. If it is true, then that's the only way I figure I could have gotten it because my ex didn't have it, at least that I know of. I'm kinda ashamed of asking her though, kinda embarassing considering we're not really on the best of terms right now...

I'll find a health clinic, thanks guys.

I don't think you can get it from other places, because it's an std, but i'm not positive about that. Honey, you really can't trust people about what they say about their sexual health. It isn't likely to happen, but you should get tested together to see if you're both clean before any sexual contact. Hope it works out.

Get tested with my ex girlfriend? That will be rough...

I don't have a girl right now, but I do want to get this figured out before I find a new girl so I don't spread it if it is something.

Again, thanks for your advice.

I have gential herpes but i'm a girl so i'm not sure if its different for us. When you have the bumps does it hurt at all? And yes it can be passed on toilet seats, clothing ect. At our house my clothes are washed seperatly from my daughters because thats contact. Okay its possible too to get gential herpes from cores on the mouth. Mine was acquired from a fever blister. I have only had one sexual partner and he does not have it or he may and just be a carrier. That is also possible for a person to have it and not even know it. He has had several partners in the past in which he could have acquired it from but since I had an open sore we beleive thats were it came from. I was dignaoised with this 3 years ago. It is not possible to get tested for this unless you have an outbreak at the time you go to the Dr. At least thats what I have been told by my clinic. Things that trigger outbreaks are stress lack of sleep ect. Also if you have a spinal injury afterwards it messes with it since when you don't have an outbreak the virus hiberates if you will in the bottom of your spinal cord. Hope this is helpful feel free to pm me.

Yup it hibernates close to your ear also there are two main different types the false idea people have is that you get only genital herpes from someone with genital herpes and you get mouth herpes from someone with mouth herpes, yours was transfered from a sore on your girlfriends mouth most likely, it's very common so many peoploe have herpes it's not even funny, nobody wants to talk about it and thats why more people get it. A good way to get the puss out during a breakout is plantain its a herb you soak it on cloth and then apply the green leaves directly on the sores it elicits the puss out very well, I used it on an eye infection of the tear duct and it worked miracles, with that said the drug companies have probably pressured the govt' to make it illegal.
