Shaking In My Sleep?
Posted: 11-23-04 07:39am

About 6 months ago I had a reaction to some medication - a seizure of some sort - first one i'd ever had. Afterwards every now and then as I would be falling asleep my body would shake or vibrate a little bit. Now - a couple of nights each month when she notices, my wife will wake me up and say that i'm shaking - my whole body. I don't seem to notice that i'm shaking in my sleep (no dreams about shaking) and i'm not hard to wake up. I don't have any difficulty going back to sleep and i'm normally not tired the next day. My wife says its something I do quite frequently during the night though. I don't think I have any type of day tremor or anything like that. Anyone have any suggestions? I would really appreciate it as this is something that is worrying me greatly. Confused

It happens to me too quite a lot, I wouldnt worry about it too much!

I think it must have something to do with the electrical impulses in the brain.

Yeah? I hope those impulses aren't an indicator to something malevolent. Anyone else had this type of experience?

Btw thanks for the reply

I too experience this and am various curious as to what it is. It does not seem to be listed as a disorder anywhere, and my doctor doesn't seem to think it is anything to be concerned about it. What is strangest is not knowing if it is really happening as it is in that falling to sleep stage that it happens to me. It tends to wake me up completely, but then I have no problem falling back to sleep. Very strange--does anyone know more about it?

Myclonus or hypnic jerking is the closest I could find (google is great)
nothing serious that I could find.. My shaking doesn't seem to wake me up though..

I have also had this issue for a couple of years. My doc says its nothing and I am healthy otherwise. Tonight I had an extreme attack and believe I might have gotten a strong clue about its origin. I have had a bout with the flu the last few days and therefore my stomach is gurgling alot from swallowed mucus and little food intake. Tonight I awoke with an extreme twitching just below the sternum. I believe it might have been my stomach muscles gurgling, but vibrating intensely to get rid of the extra mucus. Other nights it rarely wakes me as I am drifting off though I thought it was my heart beating erratically for awhile. This was not the case. The point is I have had constant post nasal drip for the same couple of years and I am wondering if the draining mucus is upsetting the stomach, especially when I am on my back sleeping. Sounds kinda gross, but I am interested in what others' symptoms are. There seems to be no real knowledge of this condition out there. Anyone?

Re:shaking During Sleep...

When I was a child I experienced several episodes during a 1 year period of waking to the sensation that my whole bed was shaking ( which convinced me at the time the bogeyman was under my bed shaking it)

a couple of years ago I experienced the same thing, I awoke to the same sensation of the bed shaking, being older and not afraid at all I sat up and looked at my husband and the bed and realized the bed was not shaking but my whole body was vibrating very fast, I don't know what caused it but I am convinced of a link between it and psychic activity of sorts.

That may seem a bit odd to some but the place it happened as a child I was terrorized by nightmares every night, and would not be alone in the basement where I and my siblings slept.

The room I was in as an adult where the shaking occurred is now my daughters and she refuses to sleep in there.

As a child in the place where the nightmares occurred I had a recurring dream which years later came true.

Is there a psychic link, I don't know but thought i'd add my experience.

Ive had the bed shaking experience 4 times now
Posted: 05-18-08 18:16pm

Hello, in the past two years ive felt this experience about 3 or 4 times, not sure. But about two days ago it happened again and I started browsing about bed shaking in google. I found out im no the only one, although ive seen some weird things which i dont believe, i dont think im getting possesed or anything. but i do think its weird, and freaky.

the last time it happened, and every other time before, im sleeping, deep sleeping then suddenly i feel shaking, i feel the bed shaking so i wake up to see if its a dream, or an earthquake, and i find myself concious touching the bed and it is REALLY shaking, then i lean over and touch the floor but its not, at least i cant feel the floor shaking. so i lay back in bed and the shaking continues for about 30 secs then its gone. the shakin is so real i wake entirely up, sit on my bed and start thinking what can it be, lights on and everything. then i sleep again.

its very weird, id love to know what really is.
