Pregnancy After Menopause -- 15 Years
Posted: 11-26-04 17:46pm

Is it possible to get pregnant if one has not menstruated for 15 years? I hope not -- i'm too old -- i'm 58. And when would one know the difference between gas pains and baby movement - if I am it would be either 3 months or 2 weeks shy of 3 months -- oh help me god if I am

I think anything is possible. That would be awesome if you're pregnant. What a gift from god. A baby brings so much joy to your life. Keep us posted. Btw, I don't think you would be feeling movement that early.

Actually, it wouldn't be a gift -- not at this present stage and emotional state in my life.

And the woman of 57 who gave birth was just recently and she was artificially inseminated -- she gave birth to twins.

I really hope I am not pregnant. It would be devastating for me.

Thanks so much for all of your input. I'll keep you posted.

Can anyone describe what the difference in feeling would be (if that's possible to do in words Smile ) from maybe gas bubbles in the intestines opposed to the movement of a baby. It's been way too many years for me to remember the feeling of a baby moving.

They both feel very similar. The baby feels more like a butterfly hitting the side of your uterus

Just get a test. You can get a cheap one. But like I said, I don't think you would be feeling baby yet. I just had two babies, back to back. The first one I felt around 20+ weeks and the second one at 16 weeks.

I don't know how accurate the tests are, but here is the weird part of all of this, almost like it's all in my head: I did a pregnancy test twice and it said no. I even thought, fine i'll go to my doctor because i'm very very tired lately (unusual for me) but I was too embarassed (because of my age) to say anything to her about my fears. I also figured she'd be able to detect if I was pregnant from an exam. I even requested a blood test. No one said anything about, hey, you look or seem or your tests reveal you're pregnant. But for the past 3 months i've been extremely tired, have had symptoms of pregnancy and now this feeling in my stomach, but under the rib cage area and maybe in the center of my stomach but high near the ribs. I can't even remember where you feel the baby moving first? Near the ovaries? I can't remember?. I'm thinking, maybe it's my intestines bubbling. But i've taken so much stuff for gas and nothing has stopped it. I've od'd on the stuff. It's all very bizarre. And my blood tests came back all fine -- all the various things they tested for came back fine.

So this has to be in my head, but this continual weird feeling in my stomach is really stressing me out.

Yeah, you would probably feel the baby moving a little lower. Describe your symptoms to your gyn or family practice doc. Maybe they would have a better idea of what it might be. You could jokingly say - I feel like i'm pregnant, what could these symptoms mean? You have to find out for your own sanity.

yeah, that'd be a good approach. And you're right. I just need to find out before I go crazy. Thx

When does one usually have morning sickness? I've forgotten all this stuff. Is it right away? Is it after 3 months?

It usually starts around 6 weeks and ends around 12 weeks. When it ends and the severity differs for everyone, but it almost always starts around 6 weeks give or take a week.

Okay, thanks -- well, then maybe it's just a bug right now -- it's not morning Laughing anyway but the past couple days i've felt nauseous -- so hopefully it's something else

just that I have all these symptoms that point to being pregnant but they're off, ya know, not to mention neither one of the preg tests came back positive. I don't know how accurate they are, really, but for now I guess I can go on that. I may ask my doctor to give me an ultrasonography so they can see pictures of everything going on in there. That would certainly tell a lot.

If you truly went through menopause 15 years ago and now shows odd symptoms and had a positive pregnancy test, then it is time to get back in to the doctor and don't wait to long.

It is unlikely that you suddenly started ovulating again, but there are other things that can stimulate hormones, such as pre-tumors and similar. While there likely is no cause for alarm, don't wait to many months before getting things checked out, please.

My sister went thru 2 menopauses, and then started back to having periods, they found a lump on her pituitary area and removed it twice. She is 56y/o, I am not trying to scare you, but, you might want to get this checked out.
Sincerely,
sandy

I was watching montell and like this lady had hit menopause and on top of that like 2 years before she did she was told she couldnt have children anymore like she had like a 18 year old.. So like she went to the er complaining of tummy cramps and she was actually in labor! She had been a little over weight so she didnt notice any physical changes and never went thru morning sickness or anything she had gone thru menopause for like 5 years

crazy huh?

I know I am a talk show junkie
