Should I Be Concerned?
Posted: 11-29-04 17:25pm

:d

hey there!

As someone who never has any health issues, i've got a couple of questions about some "stuff" that's been going on. To start off with, i've only had one period since may, and that was back in september. Before, I was always pretty regular, about 45 days or so - I should have gone to the doctor before, but as is my fashion, I put it off.

Then, last week, I went to the urgent care place here with some pretty bad abdominal pain - it was usually ok if I was sitting down, but laying flat and moving jarred it. They ran a few tests then referred me to a gynocologist. After an exam, she ordered an ultrasound, which I just got back from. The doctor there said it would take a few days to get the report back, but that the ovary on the right side (where i'd had the pain) was enlarged.

Should I be concerned, or is this something i'll just end up devoted money to find out that doesn't really matter?

Any input would be appreciated!! Thanks!!!

Did they tell you what type of cyst it was? Fluid or solid mass?

Sometimes cysts can go away on their own accord but I did read that all cysts need to be watched.

It depends on the cysts size and type on what action needs to be taken. From what I can remember cysts that go away on their own accord normaly go after a few months so even if it doesnt need immediate treatment you will still have to be monitored.

If you find out the size of it and if it is a solid mass or not I might be able to help more.

Your period problems are probably due to you having the cyst but being unaware of it up until now.

Hope this helps.

Take care and let me know how you get on!

Thanks so much for the info, nutty nut!

They didn't say if was a fluid or solid mass - I guess maybe that's what i'll find out when they get the results back from the ultrasound.

I guess the reason I thought I might be concerned was the length of time i've been having issues with my period - i'd read that most "functional" cysts usually go away on their own over the course of a few months - i've been having this problem for going on six months now.

At any rate, thank you again so much - i'll let you know more details when I get the results from the ultrasound back.

The cyst could be the reason for your missed periods.I would see what the report says and if the doc says you can watch it,then fine.If there are other procedures recommended, get a second opinion, just to be sure.Yes,this does cost some money, but, this is your health you are talking about, not a pair of shoes!Best to you!Patty

I just called to find out about a report and the nurse told me everything is "completely normal."

doesn't answer my question about why all the missed periods or why I was told the ovary was enlarged, but at least I know everything's ok. What a birthday present!!

Think i'll probably try a different doctor next time - i'm pretty sure the priority of these folks is to get people in and get people out as quickly as possible.

Anyway, thanks for all the help and info - this is really quite a community here - you're all great!! Thanks again!

I agree that you need a new doc!I would want to have a little more info as well.If you cannot talk with the doctor to get a little more info, that's not a good sign.Best of luck to you.Patty
