Switching Pills
Posted: 11-30-04 23:48pm

Hi,

i've been on the pill for the past year (triquilar 21), but i've got switch to marvelon starting in late december (apparently my body changed, and the hormone levels in triquilar aren't right anymore). First, does anyone know if there are any side effects from switching pills? Will there be the upset stomach/breast growth/etc all over again? Also, if anyone has any opinons on marvelon, i'd love to hear them.

Thanks.

Chances are basically anything could happen. You might not get sick all over again but you might, as well. So it's basically not predictable to much. Can I ask why you got your pills changed?

Cassy,

my pills have been changed 'cause the hormone levels weren't right for me anymore. I went on the pill in the first place for severe menstrual pain. For the first 7 months that I was on the pill, everything was fine and my severe pain/extreme fatigue/other icky symptoms were greatly reduced. But over the summer I noticed that my periods were getting longer again, and that I was taking more advil for the pain, and that basically things were starting to go back to what they were before. I recently went to my doctor, and I asked about this. She said that the pill that I was on (triquilar) had a very low progesterone dose, and that the symptoms that I was describing sounded like the result of not enough progesterone. So she put me on this new brand with a bit higher dose.

I was really worried when she told me about the hormone levels not being right, 'cause I though that it meant that the pills weren't working as well for birth control anymore either. But I asked her about that too, and she said that that wasn't a concern.
