I have systemic lupus and was wondering if
anyone could tell me what some of my labs
mean. I have never had anything come back
on my urinalysis before and this time I
did. I'm too impatient to wait to see my
doctor in december.
These are some of them that came back with
an asterisk beside them:
leuk est - 100/ul *
wbc - 10-25 *
bacteria - mod *
mucus - mod *
the leuk est ( is a leukocyte estimation)
that would
be the number of luekocytes in the sample
(usually in a
normal adult 3.8 - 10.8 optimal health is
around 7 thous/l)
wbc is a white cell count is the total
white cell count in a
sample. Remember that leukocytes all do
different jobs and for
this particular one they are measuring
both the white cell
and the immune response.
Bacteria presence of bacteria is moderate
depending on if that
was a blood presence or a mucus or urine
sample all tell
different things...
Mucus this could be a couple of things
depending on what
panel this responds to: this may have
been a spittle test or
a swab. Increase in mucus can be an
immune response.
Were these all blood serum samples? Or
were some of
these swabs? The last two look more like
swabs or other
lab samples.
I would recommend give the doctors office
a call. They may be
able to take the time and explain exactly
what they are finding
in comparision to your previous tests.
Never be afraid to call your physician...
It's a job to him but
more importantly its your health. If you
have concerns you
need to take them to your doctor. The
only tools I find that we
have against this are friends and
knowledge.
