Hair Coloring
You know what, I really don't know if it is not safe, but I have colored my hair twice since I have become pregnant, and my hair is not damaged really bad now. My doctor told me that my hormones are just reacting negatively to the chemicals in the dye.

Listen Up
I have hear that most chemicals, including hair dye, are not good things to be around while preganant. My sister is pregnant and she couldn't even paint her house or clean her kitchen! Be careful gals!

Please please dont color your hair while you're pregnant...It will most definitely affect the baby in some way....Whatever goes through you, goes through the baby....My aunt used to be a cosmetologist and hairdresser, she worked with chemicals dying peoples hair and she ended up getting ovarian cysts from it...So please stay away from any chemicals, for the sake of ur baby!

You can't get cysts from dying your hair, and dye can't get to baby through your skin, you have to eat or drink it. I have done it with every pregnancy and have three beautiful healthy sons! Two words for ya, wives tales.

I have never heard of getting cysts from dying your hair, I have heard that the hormones in your body and stuff can make the color come out wierd but thats it. My mom said that she died her hair when she was pregnant the same color she always dyed it and it turned and ugly wierd shade. Hmmm but I dont know, dont dye my hair

Ventilate
Yeah, you're right about the breathing thing, if you plan on doing it make sure you are in a well ventilated room and even to be more on the safe side wear a mask. If it's warm, do it outside! I have dyed my hair the same color twice with every (4) pregnancies, and still have yet to turn a strange color, actually it looks better than usual when I color when I am pregnant, but every woman is different. It takes better, so leave it on less than the normal time. Good luck!

I have always dyed my hair. And when I found out I was pregnate I had horrible roots, and everyone told me no dont dye your hair! But my Dr. Told me that so long as you arent in your first trimester, you should be ok do dye it once or twice. There are no known effects of coloring your hair.

Yeah you can color your hair while pregnant. The doctors that I have seen told me that it is better to do it in the 2nd trim. Though. There hasn't been any research showing it actually causes any complications or problems.

Yes!!! You can color your hair while you are pregnant. It's not recommened in the 1st trimester b/c it may not take due to hormones. I'm a cosmetologist and i'm around color, perm and nails everyday and I have had no problems with my pregnancy or no problems with my baby. Every person that I have talked to that does hair had not problems with their pregnancies or babies! And medical researchers have no proof that it can cause cancer, cysts, etc. As long as you are in a well ventilated place you are fine!!!!

Hey!!
People do whatever they want, but it is no safe. My doctor said no way, but I really wanted to color so I called my mom's doctor in brazil and he said the same thing. And what crombiechic16 said about getting through your skin is totally true.(that's what my doctor said) you do not need to eat something to get through your baby, that's crazy.
Just think about it.

Hey!!
I don't mean to sound mean or anything about replies on haircolor, but I am a cosmetologist. And if I knew of anything about my job harming my my baby....Trust me I would not of kept on working through out my pregnancy. Color can not go through skin, and there is no proff that it harms mom and baby. Think about how many women do hair that are pg and their babies come out prefectly healthy. Before assuming what your dr says about anything.....Look on the web. There are many cases where they could be wrong.

Well, I was asking myself this question just today, after my 12 year old told me that I had lots of greys. Thanks to you all for all your comments. I am in a high risk pregnancy and seeing all the comments on this board have made me go against dying my hair for a while, at least till i'm no longer 'high risk'. My doctor is against me doing it and I will go with what he says because he knows what's best for me and my baby. Thanks again!!! :d

Why Not Wait - Just to Be Safe?
There is not enough medical research on the effects on hair coloring on your baby, and some people say there is no problem at all with the current chemicals used in colorants, but most websites say to wait until after the first trimester. This is only 9 months out of your life - why take a chance that any kind of chemical could be absorbed through your scalp? (ever feel the tingly sensation on your scalp when you get your hair colored??) if you can't wait that long to color your hair, some sites suggest just getting highlights - which don't touch your scalp. And if you just can't wait to color your hair even after all the warnings... Maybe your priorities aren't in the right place.

Dear femminuccia,
firstly, I recommend that you follow your doctor's advice.
But if you still want to color your hair, why don't you go for some hi or low lites. This way the color won't touch your skin. Might be a nice change as well.
There is always time to go back to full head color after your baby is born.

Color Your Hair If You Want To!!!!
I'm a cosmetologist and have herd the rumors......(to not color your hair). I've got a funny story...And yes I am pregnant... I was doing my sister in laws hair and got bleach (hair bleach on my stomach..... I got a major allergic reaction. It turned bright red and started burning and itching. I freaked out because of all the things that have been said about not even coloring your hair when your pregnant. I called my doctor and she basically laughed at me.. Said "don't worry about the baby... But if your worried about your skin you should call your family doctor."

I have one question. If the dye cant get in to the skin then why do you have to where gloves. Will it dye color your skin if you do not where gloves. Yes it will trust me. Then think about this the top of your is skin and it has poors wicth they breath . If you dye your hair the poors breath it in to skin then it gos to your blood and can and will get to your baby.
