Breakthrough Bleeding For 6 Days... Posted: 12-07-04 20:23pm
Ive been having breakthrough bleeding for
6 days now. Its mostly brown but with
some light blood in it. Just when I think
its gone, it comes back again! I need to
wear a thin panie liner. I got a urine
test & culture done by my gyno. And
it came back neg. She put in a
prescription for othro tri cyclen since im
on ortho tri cyclen lo now. She thinks
the bleeding may be due to the paxil cr
(affecting my estrogen). Ive been on
ortho lo for about 2 years now, and had no
problems the first year or so (that I
remember). I had breakthrough bleeding
2xs this year prior to this, but both
times it was a few days before my period
and I had been on antibiotics that cycle.
I know breakthrough bleeding is common the
first 3 months when starting bcp, but
after two years? Im guessing due to my
anxiety and the meds. My hormones are all
out of wack. I haven't had sex since
sept. 6, so im pretty sure its not
pregnancy (although at first I thought it
was implantation bleeding, but its going
on too long, and ive read that usually
occurs around the time of your period, and
my periods not due till the 15th, and this
started the 2nd, plus, my gyno didnt think
it was that). My breasts have also
swelled up like the normally due 10 days
before my period and my lower back has
been killing me. My breast dont hurt like
they normally do before my period, but I
know symptoms can vary month to month.
Is it normal to have breakthrough bleeding
this long?
Its really starting to get on my nerves.
My periods dont even last this long!! For
the last few months they've barely lasted
3/4 days, now ive been bleeding on and off
for 6 days!!
Ugh! Im so frusterated!
(she told me I can stop taking them and
start the ortho tri cycle on sunday or
finish the active pills for this pack and
start a new pack sun. But my body is so
messed up already, I dont feel like
skipping a period or messing my body up
any more)
(i also took an hpt on friday, which came
back negative)

My doctor told me that if you are taking
antibotics while on your birth control
your birth control may not be effective
and to use an alternative while on the
birth control so you could have been
bleeding because you birth control was not
effective.
