Chronic Hives
Posted: 10-22-03 16:56pm

Really really bad hives, and swelling around eyes, mouth. I've been suffering for over 2 years. I am controlling it with over the counter benedryl, but I would like to know if anyone else may know or have experience. I mean if I don't take this benedryl, i'm miserable and depressed. Please help with any opinion

I know exacly what u feel, I have chronic idiopathic urticaria. It started 4 months ago and I still have it, I take antihistamines and the hives don't appear anymore, but if I stop taking them i'm miserable, I cant concentrate on anything else but it because it itches like hell.
I went to a dermatologist and he put me on a diet, it's been 3 weeks and he doesn't know what triggering my allergy reaction and I don't think he will now soon.
This kind of affections such allergies are still a mistery for doctors, they know what happens in ur body when u are allergic but it's very hard for them to find the cause.
So you must try that, first u have to see an opinion of a doctor whether its a food allergy or other types. If its a food allergy u can start taking notes on what u eat every day, and pay attention to the evolution of the hives and compare with what u have eat before...U know...Give me some details bout it :?:

There Are Solutions

Hi! I have chronic urticaria aswell which gets worse by hot food, heat, sweating, stress etc. I have tried many histamines and zyrlex has worked ok. However if you want to have them removed 90 - 100 % try acupuntcure which is very effective. The other very effective remedy is homeopathic medecines which will make your lives truly bareble again. My remedy (each remedy is individualised) constitues of ribes nigrum, viola tricolor, apis mellifica, histaminum (all 4 3 times per day) and formidium d6 (one 1 ml ampul per night). This remedy keeps the hives and itch away, you wont even believe the state you were in before you started. The good thing is that it is all natural medecines so there are no siede effects. Try it and regain control...

Hi there, I am really sorry for you, autoimmune are really serious, I don't have it so I wouldn't know if acupuncture helps, have you tried it? There is an indian (as in india and not native americans) website for urticaria and also your condition which have reported good results, after 16 yrs it must be worth a try. I would be very happy if you would at least try acupuncture and homeopathic medecines, they find skin problems to be very easy to treat, complete opposite compared to western medecines which have little effetc other than stereoids which are not good for you. Please let me know if you try, I have felt the similar feelings and am so relieved over the help I have been given.

Hi, i'm jerry, i've had hives for over 24 years. It's been hell. I've been on all kinds of medicines, nothing has cured my hives. I've had them so bad that i've almost committed suicide. There must be an answer to this problem. A lot of times, i'd go to the doctor and my skin would be clear, so the doctor would not see them, by time i'd get home i'd be covered from head to toe. Please, don't give up, there is probably millions of us

Hi there, perhaps if you would actually try some of the suggestions on this website you might get some some help...? I am surprsied to see a lot of messages here which are all based on describing your predicament however little reading... People who have hives are people who are generally too stressed which perhaps may explain why they don't take in information. That's perhaps a harsch thing to write but I am writing it to help you, perhaps it can be a good idea to slow down a little and actually be open to suggestions, perhaps that way you could actually get rid of them - it can't be worth just nagging about them can it?

Hope This Helps - Cu
Posted: 12-08-05 21:58pm

I have had cu for about 10mths now.

I have been to every doctor possible and they put me on every antihistamine with no success. My cu appears when I work out, get stressed or anxious and heated.

I have been to two specialist that didn't help me at all. They did skin prick test, ige test, hep b & c, the list goes on but everything came back negative. They both said I had cholinergic urticaria.

I have also tried acupunture, chinese medicine and this helped a little but not enough.

About two months ago I came across a doctor who put me on "cimitidine magicul 800". This helped a great deal but the cu still appeared in some places. I recommend you try this. It has a h1 and h2 blocker, where an antihistamine only has h1 blocker.

I had been researching my condition everyday and I come across a drug called "ketotifen". I only read great reports about this but it's not available in aust and no doctor would write a perscription for me.

Yesterday, I went to another specialist who perscribes this drug. He said if I take it for 4mths it should fix the problem for good. He has about 5 people a week with urticaria come see him, he has a very high success rate. I had to order it from nz and it was $100 for 100 tablets which is a lot cheaper than antihistamines. This specialist had urticaria himself so he understands the frustration that one can have with this condition. He told me I didn't have cholinergic urticaria as this only comes on the stomach and arm area. I get this all over my body.

I will let everyone know how I go on "ketotifen". If I have great results I recommend you all try it.

Chronic Idiopathic Hives
Posted: 09-04-08 11:04am

I know how you feel. I started 3 years ago. I was diagnosised with Chronic Idiopathic Uticaria. After seeing a demratologists for 6mo and several different medications, I was finally placed on Cylcosporin. At that time it finally started to control them to the point I was not going crazy with itching. Then I was able to see that the hives cycled with my menstral cycle. I finally stopped birth control. This helped, but still have them. I am now able to take zyrtec or claritin over the counter. They keep them under control, but they are never gone. I would recommend seeing a doctor and finding something that works for you. Benadryl made me very tired and built up in my system so much from a year of taking it I was so tired every am it would take me a couple hours to get moving.
