How to Keep Duragesic Patches Attached And Waterproofed Posted: 12-16-04 14:35pm
I have been on duragesic pain patches for
over a year. I had problems with the
patches not sticking to my skin. I found
that you can call the manufacturer's help
line and they will send you a free box of
johnson & johnson bioclusive wound
management adhesive covers.
They are better than tegaderms and much
much better than any kind of tape. I wish
I had known about this during the summer
when I had the most problems with the
patches peeling off by themselves. They
also are truly waterproof.
Anyway, on the back of each duragesic box
of 5 patches is the
janssen customer help line (1-800-janssen
or 1-800-526-7736).
They will require a control# from your
duragesic box and your address.
They will then ship you out a free box of
the wound management covers. Shipping is
also free and takes about 3 days. I
think they are doing this to ensure that
duragesic patches work properly.
I also found that neither my pain mgt
doctors nor the pharmacists knew about
this service. They usually suggested
buying oversized tegaderms which are
expensive and hard to find. They now
pass this info along to duragesic users.
Good luck and I hope this helps some
others. ... Ken

Thanks Ken! Posted: 12-16-04 14:50pm
I don't have much problem in the winter,
as I stretch my skin while applying them
but during the summer, they do fall off.
Thanks again for the info.
Sincerely,
sandy

The brand names seemed to work the best
for me and they aren't so darn big. I
guess due to insurance, everyone can't get
them though. However I have taken the
duragesic patches also and I got a really
big waterproof band aid and would put over
it and it helped somewhat.
I no longer take them due to them due to
the numerous side effects.
Hope they are working better for you.

I just started using the sandoz version of
the duragesic patch. (sandoz is
duragesic= made in the same factory)
in florida you have to have the tegaderm
or bioclusive to keep the patchs on. I
was getting the duragesic with my own
health insurance and they were only 20 a
month now the genaric are 20 a month on my
wifes insurance.
No more free bioclusive covers. Whenever
I am at my docs office, I ask if they have
any leftover tegaderm or iv covers,
sometimes they have a bunch other times
someone beats me to the punch.
Good advice though for the folks that are
getting the brand duragesic.

Bioclusive From Jannsen Posted: 08-12-06 10:06am
I have had such a hard time with my
duragesic.
I called 1 800 jannsen and they asked me a
million questions in voicemail then sent
me to a representative that asked a
million more questions.
I later found out that I am disqualified
because I had a reaction to the duragesic
on a stretch mark on my tummy below my
waist. (this was after they told me to
only wear them above my waist).
So, be careful what you say to them
because their reps job is to disqualify
you more than to help your duragesic patch
stick.
After I got really upset with them, they
told me it was a legal liability. Then
she said "you can purchase them in any
medical supply store". Umm, there isn't
a liability to tell me where to go buy
them???
Good luck. I'm allergic to latex and
nothing works very well to stick it and
its so expensive that my insurance just
doubled the copay in august? The middle
of the year!! That should be illegal!

Bioclusive And Duragesic Posted: 08-12-06 10:11am
If there is this situation with jannsen
about this bioclusive for duragesic
users.. And they go to the extremes to
disqualify you.. I'd say that they know
that their product (duragesic) doesn't
stick without the "bioclusive" and that
just sounds like a good class action suit.
There is no reason to not have five in
each box of five duragesic.
I checked with the medical supply and
about had a heart attack with the costs
retail.. I can't believe they give
these away to some, proving they are
needed and yet others have to pay more
than the cost of the duragesic, itself, to
get another product to help it stick,
hence: work.
I'm so very disgusted with this company.
I can't wear the generic fentanyl patches
because they literally are not like the
brand name duragesic with the resevoir
(sp?). The pharmacy told me that there
is a generic with a resevoir like the
named brand but no one will order it or
knows anything about it, I guess.

I cannot help you with the allergy to
latex or their refusal to send you the
covers but I can tell you that if you go
to www.Duragesic.Com
you can print a $20 every month to help
you pay for the medicine copay. I get
mine for free since my copay for the brand
name is $20.
Try using that , at least its something
although it isn't much $20 is $20

you also can get the duragesic generic
called "sandoz" and use those. Cvs has
them but walgreens does not carry them.
Walgreens and publix both use the mylan
genaric and I had little to no success
with those patchs.
Good luck,
brian

Thank you for the coupon information.
Interestingly enough, someone at walgreens
told me abut sandoz. I'm glad I know who
has it now. Thank you too.
