Job Interview - Another Update Posted: 12-18-04 23:25pm
hi there,
just letting you know that I got fired...
Guess why? Well, I told my "employer" on
my first day of work that I am pregnant,
the next day I got fired. Because "the
air there is bad" and "i could get overrun
by a forklift" and "i would have to lift
heavy things" (in an office?!!) and so
forth... Well, I have already contacted
my lawyer... I'll keep you posted, if
anyone is interested...
Guess I gotta find me a new job... But
how? If I tell them that i'm pregnant at
the interview, i'm not going to get the
job at all and if I tell them when I start
work, then I get fired the next day...
This is a mess...
Hope you girls are doing better than I do
right now... Well, at least I got my
stolen bike back, its messed up but I got
it back...

Same here, i'm really pissed right now...
but i'm also kinda - well, I don't know
what I should do... On one hand I would
reaally like to sue the guy (i could sue
him for about $6400 which is a lot of
money for me) on the other hand I am very
cautious and believe in karma - if one
sues, he might get sued too (if you know
what I mean...)
i don't know, i'm just pissed off...
and I don't know what I should do in terms
of finding a job... If I tell them at the
interview, then they aren't gonna hire me
in the first place and if I tell them at
the first day of work then I get fired the
next day... And if I don't say nothing at
all they are going to find out themselves
at least in the first week (the baby moves
constantly, I am 20 weeks along and my
belly is not to be hidden! No way!)
well I don't know... Sueing the guy is
probably the only way I will be able to
make some money to pay the midwife and to
put some aside for the baby... I hate
this s(h)ituation!
Help!

Karma is not to let others mistreat you,
though.
I do think somebody else had suggested
working in a store for maternity clothing
or something like that. I think that
might be an excellent idea. The store
should figure out that you can relate to
the clients, and even if it is only for
7-9 months, it still means that there will
be a group of clients going through
pregnancy with you and thus developing a
bond with you. That can only be good for
business.

Sometimes you are better off letting
things go, especially being pregnant, you
do not need the added stress right now,
companies can usually get around something
like this. Trying to tell yourself that
the job was not meant to be is difficult,
I agree and if you were to get your job
back they could make it hell on earth,
this is just my opinion though.
Sincerely,
sandy

Im sorry about your job. But since youre
sueing, he may come up with 'just cause'
as to why he did. It can be a lame excuse
saying 'she wan't performing her jobs
100%' but I hope he can't come up with
.C.R.A.P!
As for finding another job, im not sure
what kind of job the other one was, but
find where there is a 'high volume' of
pregnant women. I went to apply at babies
"r" us and there were about 7 of them.
Target hires, mervyns. Just keep a look
out for the places you are noticing a good
volume. At least you will know they arent
fired for being pregnant.

Heh, it seems that there are enough
options that you have to fight them off
with a stick. Remember to enjoy your
time. Pregnancy can be a great period of
joy. Best on luck to you.
I am sorry about your job! What a jerk.
He does have basis to fire you though
(sorry to say). If you didn't tell him
you were pregnant when he hired you then
they consider it hired under false
pretenses. I would still fight it though
b/c it is on the same note illegal to fire
someone based solely on pregnancy if they
can still perform the job at hand!
Goodluck hun!

Thanks girls for all your advice... I am
on my way to the adecco office (temporary
employment bureau) and hope, that I will
have some luck there. It is so hard to
even find a job I would qualify for...
And then this steadily growing belly - it
really is not easy...
I'll keep you posted

(wow, how nice I am )... But I have to talk to my lawyer
again, i'll meet him next week.

Well, sa I said, I have to talk to my
lawyer again...
The main reason I would sue is so he knows
he can't get away with it and doesn't do
it again. Goodluck with a new job and
whatever u decide w/the law suit!

i really don't know what I should do... I
am starting to get really depressed. All
maternity clothing stores im my area
aren't hiring (and there are no pregnant
women working there either). Same thing
with toys r us, kids r us, babies r us.
Target and mervins require urine tests,
which I would not pass. I called adecco
and they told me (at least straight out)
that there is very little chance for me to
get a job there. I check the internet job
sites back and forth and back and forth
and there is either no jobs I qualify for
or no temporary openings. If I send a
resume to a place and they ask me to come
to an interview, then I have the problem
that 1. I tell them about my pregnancy
right away and don't get the job to begin
with or 2. I tell them on my first day of
work (which really sucks, I like to play
with open cards) and then they fire me the
next day...
My self confidence is like zero. I feel
fat and ugly, not good for anything... I
need money. I hate christmas, don't have
money to buy presents, am not christian
anyways, my family is like 2000 miles away
and I can't go visit them.
i'm really down right now. Sorry for
bothering you guys. Just don't know what
I should do. I even called my previous
employer (not the one who fired me) and
begged him to let me work there again.
But I was working there only temporary
(for a woman who had a baby) and now she's
back working there again.
My husband is at work all day long, I miss
him so much... The only thing I do is
eating, really...
well, i'll leave you alone with my whining
now... Hope you guys are doing better
then I do...

your tell them!
