Q: What Do Ya'll Think?

I have a really quick question. My best friend of like forever, I have know him since we were really little and he knows me better than I know myself. Last night I was on the phone with him, our nightly ritual and he asks me what I thought about letting him put his name on the birth certificate and letting him help me raise the baby! He has a girlfriend and we have completely separate love lifes but im not sure if he wants to do this to be with me or to help me. I asked him why he wanted to do this and he told me that he felt as if he could be a father to my child even if he was not biologically the dad! He is my best friend and the only person I would consider letting raise my baby with me but I never thought about having him sign the birth certificate. Can he even do this and does anyone else think that it would be completely horrid to lie to my baby and tell him that nathan is his father when he is not?

Im not sure what is legal and what is not, but I dont think you should lie to the baby about who its father is.

Thats what I say but my baby is not going to know who his real father is any way. The biggest shocker is that my mom is agreeing with this and wants me to do this!!!

You can put any name you want on the birth certificate(as far as naming a father). This is why so many celebrities get b.S. Paternity suits.
This may sound like a nice idea now,but if you ever need to take the real father to court,it could complicate matters. If your friend wants to play a father figure, that is sweet of him.Let him have an active role in your childs life. The birth certificate is a legal document and you should provide the most accurate information you can, just in case of legal problems down the road.Good luck to you.

I would never let anyone sign the birth certificate of the kid except the real father. And if that is not applicable then no one. You never know who that person could be ten years from now, and you don't need anymore complications with court and law. You don't need anyone else having right's to your child except you. It's not a good idea at all. Let him help you all he wants, but he doesn't need to have his named signed on a piece of paper to do so.
