Q: Accuracy of Pregnancy Tests??

I have posted this on 2 other forums and haven't really gotten a response. My friend has all the sign of being pregnant except she was still getting her period. She went to the doctor and got a urine test done. It came out negative. I know they are extremely accurate at the doctor's office but they made her drink a bunch of water first. My question is would that make it less accurate or would it not make a difference? She also peed like 10 times in 2 hours after drinking the 3 glasses of water. She also is now late for her period.

Im not positive but I do think that is possible that that water could have affected the test...Thats just my opinion though...Thats why u go to the abthroom when u drink a lot becuz ur bladder fills up....So I think she should either take a hpt right away when she first uses the bathroom in the moring becuz thats the best time to take em....

I just have one more question: is it normal for your periods to get longer( from period to period) but shorter in days you are on?? It also started as brown and went to pink. We are both very confused.

I know i'm late but I just found this forum. If things are still up in the air, I would request a blood--not urine--test from the doctor's office. I believe it would be a more accurate result.

I can't answer your question about periods during pregnancy being different than normal periods, but I do know it's possible to have periods and still be pregnant. A friend's mother was five months pregnant before anyone figured it out, because she never missed a period. After that, she was confined to bedrest and considered a high-risk pregnancy. The baby was born nearly to term and just fine.

Its really odd the doctors would tell her to drink a bunch of water first, from all the pregnancy tests ive taken it says not to drink a bunch of liquid before the test because it dilutes the urine and messes up the results. As someone else said before, use first morning urine, its the strongest one to use during the day.
