Q: Weight Gained While Pregnant

Before I got pregnant I was 160 lbs. And 5'2. Now that I am 16 weeks pregnant I weigh about 170. And I still go to the bathroom every 30 minutes. Is this normal? I know I was already over weight to start with. I heard about toxemia and what can I do to not have this? Please respond asap, I am kind of worried.

I know different people gain different weight or even lose (like I did in my first trimester.) I don't think 10lbs is a whole lot but ask your doc for sure. As for the peeing thing-i'm 14 weeks and I still pee all the time-it's completely normal, there's something leaning on your bladder at all times now. Especially if you drink lots of water.

Re: Weight Gained While Pregnant
It is a touch up, with normal weight gain running around 4 lb at 20 weeks, but if you are drinking excess fluid then that can account for it.

However, increased weight gain in pregnancy and especially if with significantly increased fluid intake could be sign of the pregnancy causing diabetic symptoms. You need to call your ob/gyn and let them know what is going on. They will likely have you come in for a blood test, but if you catch it early, it won't be to much of a problem.

I don't think there should be a risk for toxemia unless you also have a significant fever (more than 101-102)

You're supposed to gain 10lbs every three months. Well thats if you divide how much weight your supposed to gain in total. You're supposed to gain about 20-30 lbs during pregnancy. I was 98 before pregnancy, 5"5. Now i'm 135 last time I checked.

I was 5'8", 130 lbs before pregnancy, first I lost 10 lbs, and I am now 131 lbs at 21 weeks.
I don't really know, but I think it might be a little bit of weight gain, but talk to your doc, he'll know more... On the other hand you are supposed to gain some weight during pregnancy, so I don't think that's a problem. As long as it's not too much.
About going to the bathroom: I have to go every 15 - 30 min since 12 weeks, I guess that's normal...

It is perfectly normal to gain up to 10 lbs at 20 weeks. I had gained none at 18 wks and my doc made me eat more. I gained about 2 now at 20 weeks and 3 days. Since you were over weight before I would watch it but I don't think you are in danger. Talk to your doctor about how much you should gain. Frequent urination is normal no doubt about it!! Hope that helps hun!!

That is perfectly normal...Just make sure to keep taking your vitamins and eating right. Also walking is really good to keep you in shape. Drag a friend if you don't want to walk alone...Stay healthy:)
