Update And Info
Posted: 09-23-05 18:41pm

Yesterday for about 20 minutes I was having visual disturbances. Like when a tv goes fuzzy but in colors out both my eyes. Anyone ever have this happen? I went pale, ran a low grade fever, and felt faint. Called the dr and they said to go to the er. The er gave me a capped iv and drew 4 bloods and then dr came in and said he wasn't going to do an ekg or run my blood work cause he didn't feel it was necessary (thanks for the iv and blood for nothing, I guess). He told me to go see an eye dr! I was so mad! They also said they called my dr, but I know they didn't. I got the name of the er head and am filing a complaint. I called my dr this morning & I had and ekg, echo, cat scan, and blood work all today to make sure I was good before the weekend hit and have a f-u appt on monday. Everything came back good, so that was good, but what caused it I don't know. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy or something. It was weird. I feel fine today, though. Hopefully, it was just a weird fluke thing. Have to see what the dr says monday.

I got my op report today also. Basically said I had 2 size 6 caths in my left leg. One size 8 and one size 6 in the right leg. And one size 7 in my neck. There were no present arrythmias noticed when they got the wires inside. When they first induced arrythmias I was greater than 270bpms. I went into atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardia and circus movement tachycardia, which means the current was traveling around and around through my normal and abnormal passageway. When going to ablate the pathway, my left ventricle was too small and they had to remove the size 7 cath from my neck and reinsert and size 6 in through the neck. The size 6 cath does not come with the thermal coupler therefore, they power-based ablation was all that could be performed. (i really wanted to be freezed, too, but oh well, as long as it is gone is all that matters. Can't help how small my veins are). At 2 o'clock some potential was finally obtained to getting to the pathway. At 3 o'clock several ablations were performed which did change the morphology, but did not completely release the pre-excitation. They went from 5 watts to 35 watts and from 20 watts to 40 watts finally noting a complete resolution. They were not able to produce an arrythmia after that. At the height of ep study I was at 420bpm. They had my heart at a rhythm that would cause immediate death. Now my heart can only go up to 146bpm max. Ever.

Pretty interesting and scary how dangerous it was and I didn't even know it. Makes me happy to be alive. Glad I didn't wait cause it seemed to be a pretty bad pathway. My sister is an rn. I had her interpret the report for me.

My steps are a lot bigger today!

Gwtterry, I wonder if it was a visual migraine, I got them when I was postnatal and a few when I went menopausal; mine last about half an hour. I think I would get them checked, if they are saying see the eye doctor I think I would go just for the reassurance. In my case my mother had visual migraines when she was postnatal so I haven’t worried, I don’t feel worried because she lasted into her 80’s and was suffering dementia. She tripped over her hip protection pants in hospital fracturing her hip, this was to cause her death. They prated around and insisted on giving her clot busters which was against her wishes to be kept going when if she got dementia. (she had got it in her notes that she wanted quality of life not quantity if she got dementia.) it was the clot buster’s that killed her, as she had a brain haemorrhage, which is one of the side effects of clot busters; though the doctor tried to lie and say it was a clot. Wierd Eyes
Posted: 10-08-05 09:50am

Hi gwtterry
just wanted to say that after my ablation my eyes did the same thing. I thought I was going blind or something. It was odd as a wierd patch of wiggly colours (only way I can describe it) travelled from one eye to the next and I couldn't see very well. It didn't hurt though. Everyone I told just though I was being mad and put it down to tiredness. I had the same thing the day after the ablation too but nothing since. I wonder if it's a reaction to some of the stuff they inject into you for the ablation? As it's not happened since i'm not too worried about it.
On another note though I don't think i'm cured after my ablation. Its been a month since I had it done and my heart is skipping beats and going into short (a couple of seconds) moments of svt, just flutterings and i'm getting some pain too. Won't find out for certain for another couple of months though. I hope it's all that i'm still healing. Fingers crossed. Don't want another ablation.

Wpw - Vision Problem
Posted: 10-13-05 06:43am

I've my vision problem too. The blur vision goes from bottom and raise up to half way then disappear.

Past history, I had seen stars around then the next day I would have amigrainee headache. I've seen the eye specialist, all ok! She suggests ct scan to follow up. I haven't done it yet because I didn't have money at the moment.

Last friday, I had few dizzyness which made me very very sick. My heart doesn't behave. I went into hospital for 2 nights. After discharged, when I went back to work. I found my vision goes very very bad and very blur as well. Today, I had some headache too.

I had been 20 years palpitations free after the wpw ablation. Now, ............ I am very upset, I am not happy with my heart. It doesn't behave!!!!!!!!!

I went in last tuesday for an ep study and ablation. Nervous as hell, too. But, after my doctor's performance I am quite a bit more confidant about the next time. Yes, there will be a next time.

They completely knocked me out, thank god. I was in there for about 3 hours before they found it about 5mm from the av node. They decided to back out of the ablation because the width of the catheter is 5mm and it increased the percentage that it might damage the av node signifigantly.

Ever since the study was done, i've experienced these wpw related episodes more frequently, even ended up in the er yesterday because of one. I went back to the cardiologist and he gave me toprol-xl (i've noticed my heart rate has gone as low as 53 bpm and it causes mild chest pain) and told me he wanted to do the cryoablation. That's scheduled to be done in november.

Anyway, I was looking for some additional info on the cryoablation and haven't found much so far except for what gwtterry posted and I wanted to say thanks. Although i'm concerned about this vision problem now.

I was also wondering if anyone has heard of biofeedback and if it helps to keep rapid heart rates from getting so high so fast or at all?

So i've spoken to a couple of people I know about the weird eye thing. According to a friend of mine it's a type of migrane, you may just get the odd visuals or can also get a headache at the same time. She suffers from them regularly. I'm assuming that we're getting them after our ablations as we're just tired and in the process of healing. Though don't quote me on it, i'm definately no medical expert.

Just Had An Ablation Yesterday the Best Thing I've Ever Done
Posted: 10-25-05 21:36pm

Hi just to let you know your symptoms sounded very similar to mine I am 25 years old and my heart would go up to 200 bpm and I would get out of breathe very easily was dizzy and tired all of the time I even passed out. They put me on verapamil and atenolol for 2 years and diagnosed me with wolff parkinson white symdrome. About 6 months ago the medicine started working less and less so they scheduled me for an ablation. I went to shands in gainesville fl I was so incredibly nervous especially after they said i'd be partially awake durring it. I do not remember much except waking up to my heart beating very fast. But that was ok because they have to do that in order to find the spot that was causing the problem. I was so in and out of it I barely knew what was going on. After spending one night in the hospital I got to go home (today) ...Now and I feel better than ever. Infact I do not even know a time where I have felt better than now.... if they reccomend an ablation do it! Trust me I had my doubts but the benefits from it is just amazing. If you have any questions feel free to email me itbebuffy@ aol.Com hope you feel better!!

Eyes & Cyroablation (if I Spelled Right)
Posted: 10-26-05 10:47am

I had the eye thing happen the 2 days after my ablation and then 2 days after that and then I had nothing until last tuesday, I did it again. About one month later. I went in to see the eye dr that day since every other test was negative and wanted to go for peace of mind but my eye dr is in walmart and didn't tell me he couldn't see all the way in the back until my exam was over and my insurance only pays for one a year so better luck next year, I guess and hope it doesn't do it again, again. If you read my post ablation post I wanted the freeze, too, but it said in my op report that the cath they put in my neck was too big and they had to pull it out and put in a smaller one and the smaller one didn't come with a thermal coupler. Bummer. I hope everyone else is doing okay. My holter monitor was good, too. Just got those results back about a week and a half ago. Pretty good so far. Good luck to everyone. I will post some more cyroablation stuff for you, but right now I got to get ready for work. I'll do that tomorrow morning. Winter, I am sure you will feel better soon. I had a few chest pains, but that was all in the first couple weeks. I had read posts from people who take a couple months for their hearts to calm down after ablation. If your dr isn't worried, I wouldn't worry yet either.

i recently underwent this procedure after a lifetime of supra ventricular tachycardia episodes. I have always been able to control duration of episodes until lately, hence the ablation. Procedure was painless, lasted a couple of hours. I was very nervous and am still cautious (2 weeks post procedure), but very hopeful. I know there is a small chance of a blood clot or other problem (i am on 325 mg. Aspirin for 6 weeks), but have to assume i'll be in the majority. I tried medication to control the tachycardia and it would work for a while and then I would end up in the hospital with a svt episode I couldn't bring under control. Good luck to you - i'd say go for it - I wish I had had the opportunity a lot earlier in my life.

i also had an ablation yesterday, nervous as heck, but turned out well.
No palputations just tired now and get a whooshy feeling when I get tired.
It really wasn't such a big deal. I am 34 and had past flutters, skipped beats, etc. Until july of 2005 it really wasn't a big deal, actually seemed like the were not even occuring until august 19 when I woke up one morning with a weird popping in my chest every 5 minutes until the 4th one knocked into a seizure or possibly died and came back to life. You just never know. I feel pretty good now and had a great doctor, known as the one in only in my location. I'm still in the healing mode and they say it could take about 9 weeks when I really feel myself. If your doctor is recommending it I definitely would say yes to anyone, that's what its there for. The electrophysiologist attend med school for over 20 years, you won't get any better than that. I've had every test and an ablation is the least abrasive one. I wish everyone good luck and good health and hope that they don't take the chance I did. I may not have been here to see my children grow up.

Why So Disappointed?

Hi arose,

"i wish everyone good luck and good health and hope that they don't take the chance I did. I may not have been here to see my children grow up. "

why you said that? A side from your heart, you've other problems? Or the ep told you that your heart is not working? Let me know why? I'm worring about you. We're all in the same boat. I wish I can help you.

i did not have any quality of life, I was having attacks every 3 days and end up in emergency not knowing if I was gonna collapse again and not come back. When I collapsed on aug 19, I either seized or died and came back.

Where Is Your Doctor?
Posted: 11-25-05 17:34pm

Your dr or cardiologist (if you'd a heart problem) should look after you. They should find the effective way to sort out your problems. Collapsed wasn't good to you and the public. I was afraid in unconcious while i'm driving. It can link to many car accidents and innocent people died.

It is too much attacks "every 3 days"! My god, how you live with that? Are you running to er each time? So, what the er doc said? Have you find out why you get collapsed?

I do care everyone in this world because i'm in it.

Abaltion-wpw

Hi there,
i am new to this forum and glad I have joined. I have svt and wpw. I have had this since I was 18. I am going to see an electrophysiologist on thursday to talk about the ablation. I have dealt with this with no medication all of my life now, 33 and ready to fix it for good. I saw all kinds of post and thought I would talk to some people who have had it, some good news and some bad I can see. I would like to know if everyone that has had it has fully recovered from their side effects and if not what is the downfall of having this surgery. I want to be able to not worry about my heart skipping, palpitation, or racing so fast you cant count the pulse, and the ablation seems to be the answer. Any info would help, thank you.

hi angelac,

merry christmas!

Don't forget to bring something to listen while you're waiting (lay down flat for at least 4 hrs) to recovery. It is a very boring time. Let us know how you go. Good luck and take care.

Thank you for responding, I was wondering if anyone is on here anymore. I wanted to ask something. Is is possible to make my heart worse than it is from the ablation? I have svt epiosodes probably every few months but with the wpw I decided to go with the ablation. I dont want to have these scarey attacks anymore thats why I decided to have this done, it gets closer every day.

Ablation
Posted: 12-26-05 05:56am

I heard many people have the successful results. This is mean end up good. I only heard one case end up with an injury. Short term, other than successful, it could be ended up with pacemaker or continue taking medicine. Long term, I wouldn't tell, do your research! When was the successful first ablation performed? How long history of ablation? Good luck.

Symptoms After Ablation
Posted: 01-03-06 19:15pm

Had ablation for wpw 4 years ago. It literally took a couple of years for the extra beats and wierd beats/runs to come down to a more preablation level. Yes, the wpw is gone, although it did happen once since the procedure, but looking back I don't know that I would of had the ablation had I known that I would be one of the unlucky people that have problems after. Don't let my experience scare you - just sharing because a previous poster asked about how long the effects can last.

Thanks for your info, I know its a chance for everyone to take. Some people experience alot of different things. I can only hope that it will fix atleast the svt part which makes me very nervous. The doctor tells me it is easier to fix the wpw because usually they know right where the problem is and may not even have to speed up my heart, which I thought was nice to know. I have it on friday, wish me luck and I am sorry you didnt have the best luck. It seems people with wpw have on going issues, so far as I have seen or read, that is strange. I will update after surgery but feel free to leave a reply, thanks to everyone who has been watching and responding.
