Wpw Procedures Posted: 02-21-06 16:49pm
My son was just diagnosed with wpw he is
14. We have opted to have the ablation
done this coming monday feb 27th 2006. We
have had many conversations amongst
ourseleves, the doctor and my son. We
have chosen the abaltion for the simple
fact of him not having to be on medication
for the rest of his life (he is young and
has college to go through) and to remeber
to take a pill eveyrday could be tough on
a young man as himself. The ablation is
90% successful. They will go in 3 places
and map the area to find where the wpw is
at and shock it. Then it will be gone for
good. The side effects of the medication
was very scary to hear and my son refuses
to take it. Which is fine with us we are
very comfortable with this ablation
procedure. He will be able to be back to
normal and on the football field as early
as 4 to 5 days after the procedure.

Daughter Is Having Ablation Posted: 04-01-06 19:58pm
Not sure about that random post prior to
this... Back to wpw discussion.
Very helpful everyone... Thank you I am
going to share this site with my
daughter...
This is her second try at ablation. She
was diagnosed at birth with wpw. Has not
been on meds at all. But, she is getting
married in august and went on the pill.
She started having episodes of
tachycardia... Blacked out and was put on
monitor. Now she is scheduled april 26
for ablation.
I am not interested in another failure.
She had ablation 5 years ago. Apparently
hers is in a tough spot and the extra
pathway is near the nerve (?) that makes
the heart beat. So... I want to see if
anyone can recommend a doctor, usa
arizona? We are exhausting all means to
have best person do this as hers is a
tough case.
Anyone?

Successful Ablation Posted: 12-01-06 16:09pm
Hi, all. I hope this helps somebody w/
wpw who has questions/concerns about it.
I'm going to share my history with it.
I started having symptoms - rapid
heartbeat, leading to weeakness, hot
flashes, chest pain, and in some cases
fainting - starting at about age 10.
Nobody diagnosed it properly (my father
was in the army, and quite frankly I was
not impressed by their medical care, but
that's another story.)
i lived with it for years. It could occur
while sitting still, but was definitely
worse with physical activity. Basketball
was the absolute worst, and my being 6'6"
tall it was a real detriment!
To me the only real danger was if it
happened while I was driving. I had no
choice but to stop and pull over because I
would get really weak and lightheaded. I
would have anywhere from 5 - 30 "sessions"
a year; some lasted for a few seconds
(felt like my heart was flipping over)
some for hours. I went to specialists and
nobody could figure it out.
Finally, at 35 during a company physical,
the doctor told me I had wpw. I was lucky
that I lived a few hours from st. Louis
and barnes-jewish hospital, which has a
clinic specializing in doing ablations.
The doctor there said my wpw didn't show
up on every ekg as it should, which is why
it was never diagnosed.
Anyway, I had the procedure done at barnes
10 years ago and I have been 100% fine
since then. The procedure took twice as
long as usual - according to the doctor -
and he described it as a "tricky" one to
get at, but it worked.
Piece of cake!
Sorry to bore you to death, but I recently
started scanning forums for info about
rotator cuff tears to see what was in
store for me, and found people's
experiences to be useful.
Good luck!

I am 33 and had that procedure six days
ago. I was so scared but it was a piece
of cake-i was back at work three days
later (on thursday) he did not find what
he was looking for with me and now more
test. I was in the hospital on sept. 21
with a high heart-rate-that was so scarey.
A year ago my heart threw off a clot and
I almost died. Now he wants me to wear
the monitor for a solid month..I'm
confused b/c he said sometimes it's like
finding a needle in a hay stack. I have
one of the best doctors in miami-he is
opening a center for irregular heartbeats
in 2008 at south miami hospital someone
donated 10 million dollars to him- I am
happy to see that he will help people with
this dreaded condition.
He thinks with me it's my hormones so who
knows-it's so frustrating and even more
dealing with my insurance.
Don't be scared if I went through it- you
can be far!!
It will be over beforfe you know it

heart ablation Posted: 03-28-08 11:53am
HI I thought i would let you that having a
heart ablation is not bad at all I have
had two done now. If you have a good heart
doctor you have nothing to worry about and
I reccoemend having it if you do not have
to take heart medication down the road it
is a lot better. My cousin had what you
have and he had the ablation and some
thing else done and now he is totally
fine. He does have to take medication
still but his heart has not gone back to
300 or 400 again.
I have been on multiple medications for my
heart problem and I am going to have to
have a pace maker put in due to my medical
history.i reccomend the ablation if all
goes well you can come home the same day
and return back to your activities three
days later. i reccomend an ablation most
likely you will also have an EP studyy but
you will be some what sedated and nothing
to that eithe.
I will worn you, you will have some
bruises after words but they will go away
and they out way having to take heart
medication the rest of your life.

one whos daughter has problem Posted: 03-28-08 12:08pm
Go to www.webmd.com it is
through the clevelan clinic and they can
give you an reccomend dationfor a doctor.
They also have a site where you can type
in your state and area you need a doctor
for.
Has she considered asking her doctor to
put her on another pill and see if that
works or taken the shot. Sometimes that
has less side affects then the pill
itself.
I understand her frustration. I have had
two done now and now have to have a pace
maker put in later on this coming fall due
to mine not reponding to medications. Been
on them since 2003.
If you can find a good doctor i reccomend
going to one. COntact her inusrance
company and ask them for place it is
covered and where she can go an they will
direct you to a doctor.

Pacemaker Posted: 05-15-08 08:31am
Hi Tigger,
Having implantation of a pacemaker isn't a
fun like ablation! It hurts so much.....
I stayed 3 days in the hospital for the
first pacemaker implantation. They gave
me IM antibiotic 3 times a day (sore
bum).
Wash you hair before your implantation
because after wards you can't raise your
hands up for more than a week. Wear a
shirt opened front one... not get in from
the head. You can't raise your hands up
or high anywhere. Did the doctor tell you
where your pacemaker implants at? the
chest wall or abdomen?
