Alcohol Is Becoming My Friend! Posted: 01-02-05 22:05pm
Hi everyone!
I am 40 and have had a few bouts of severe
anxiety in my life, since my 20's...The
last one was after I had my baby 2yrs
ago...I went on paxil...All was great...I
went off...And bam..8mos later im struck
w/the fear again.
Its so wierd how it just comes on out of
the blue..Or so it seems...I did
experience a miscarraige 3 mos ago, and my
husband and I were going to try for
another...But right when we shoudl have
started trying, I got phobic about trying
for another baby( I did tell him this and
he was very supportive about holding
off)...And about life in general.
I feel so distant from him and my son...I
mean I still go thru all the motions but I
feel like a 3rd person..Anyway..Im back on
paxil for 1 week now..12.5mg..And im still
so so so anxious. I did take a walk
today and felt a little better...But..Like
the topic states...Alcohol at night...Not
alot..A few drinks..Is the only thing that
has given me relief in the past week.
Im on 3 beers right now...(im not having
more...Going to bed).
I know I shoudlnt do this...But my gosh to
get a break from the fear, for any amount
of time...Is all I want.
Im going to call my doc tommorrow.
Just wondering how bad you all think this
is.

You really shouldn't do that.. You are
taking a depressant with an antidepressant
and it will only nullify the effects of
the paxil.. I know you think it helps
now.. It probably does but in the long
run it's no good.. If you want to relax
when you have an anxiety attack.. Ask
yourself why you are so afraid and
nervous.. You're afraid of being hurt
again after the miscarriage.. That's
understandable.. But you don't want to
drink.. That can make another miscarriage
more possible I think.. You said taking a
walk helped.. What you need to do is get
lost.. Yes get lost.. You need to take a
walk.. Listen to some soothing
music..Whatever you like..And just go..
Wherever your heart desires and think
about anything but having a miscarriage or
if your a type of person that likes to
sort out their problems in your head and
see what you can do about it.. Think
about what you will do to get over this
fear and think about reassuring things..
Maybe even see a therapist. I hope I
helped.

Thx for the kind words and good ideas...I
really do know its not the best thing...I
guess thats why I posted and why I dont
overdo it. I also am trying to avoid
taking something like zanax or adavan on a
reg basis...They make me tired, and I dont
like alot of meds.
But there are better alternatives...Im
just so dang sick of the anxiety.
I will call my doc.
Thx again

That is great that you are going to talk
to your Dr., I hope that you will be
totally honest w/him. I am sure that you
realize that it does take about 2 months
for some for the paxil to do what it is
supposed to do and you also know that
mixing most meds w/alchohol does not help,
their are other meds that might work
better for you. If this Dr. Does not
seem to help you, then get a second or
third opinion as you do have this right.
Have you tried to sit down with your
husband and discuss this w/him. Walking
is great w/anxiety, relaxing tapes are
good, yoga, I have lived with anxiety for
quite a while and I am also hyper and
old(lol), it is heck sometimes, I am on
effexor and that sort of helps e.M.D.R.
Helps a lot of people with phobias and
past situations. Try to take some deep
breaths every now and then slowly
releasing the air out, this helps me. It
is great that you have a supportive
husband.
Let us know what you find out.
The best to you!
Sandy
