Doc Didn't Really Explain..plz Help If Can.... Posted: 01-04-05 15:22pm
Ok...I woke up this morning and thought my
water had broke..It felt like I peed on
myself, I went to the bathroom and checked
to see and make sure it wasn't urine and I
could tell by the smell that it wasn't
urine. I went straight in to my doc and
she then did some type of test where she
swabbed the cervix I guess and put it on a
yellow strip, she said if it turned blue
it would be positive for certain fluids?
Well the test was done 3 different times
and each time it showed blue!! She wanted
to keep re-checking it to make sure and it
showed positive each time. I have been
having a lot of pressure and some cramping
but she didn't even check to see if I was
dilated?? I am right at 37 weeks(i think,
I stop trying to keep up w/measurement's
and stuff a while back) she told me if I
have more dis-charge or cramping threw
this afternoon to call them back. What
does all this mean? I am really confused
on what tested positive. She said there
were no signs yet of my water breaking so
not to worry but it's not everyday I wake
up with this type of leakage!! Does
anyone have a similar situation or anyone
that might know what's happening? Thanks
guy's :d

The only thing I can think of them testing
for is amniotic fluid. When I had my
membrane leak and when my water broke (37
weeks) they did a swab except that it
turned green instead of blue. I'm going
to assume different city's, countries have
different ways of testing. If your
having pressure and cramping just go back.
Try to time your contractions too. Even
if you have to go to emerg and they have
to check you. You should have asked her
what the signs were for your water
breaking. And you should have asked her
what kind of fluids she was testing for.
The only thing I can think of is amniotic
fluid. You could always give her a call
too. She also should have checked your
cervix for dialation. I'd go back.

Yes they were prob. Checking to see if
you leaked fluid from the sac. Did they
do this?? Did an exam like a pap, and
take a swab of the cervix and put it on
this clear slide thing to look under a
micro.? If so that was the amniotic fluid
if it did not crystalize then that means
it was neg. That is what the doc. Just
did to me. If you think your water broke
go to your nearest er because you dont
want to get an infection to you or the
baby... Good luck and keep us updated

Hey Girl's.. Posted: 01-06-05 17:26pm
She did an exam like a pap smear and
swabbed I guess my cervix....She said the
test was positive and then took the paper
out of the room and said she was going to
look at it under the microscope. She told
me if I continued having leaking or
cramping to come back in asap. I am still
having fluid leaking but only a little at
a time. As far as cramp's they are coming
just every now and then. I talked w/ a
few of my friend's and they have had
similar cases and both of them had there
baby shortly after!!! Should I be on the
look out??:) :) I have my shower this
saturday and I would die if it happened
that day..Lol oh, but no she never did
check to see if I was dialated which
shocked me big time, she just said she
didn't see an opening in the cervix?? I
still feel really uncomfortable with this
gyno:( oh well...Hopefully soon!!!

she was checking for
"ferning", a pattern that amniotic fluid
makes on the paper. If it is positive,
then you have indeed begun leaking
amniotic fluid. If she did this with
kind of a pap-smear setup, then she would
be able to see the cervix as well.
Sounds like you are just about to become a
mommy.

keep track of them,
preferrably on a piece of paper, writing
down the time so that you can doublecheck
the numbers.

it is very possible that

you is not to far away? Is the car
tanked up?

if she could see the
cervix, then she didn't need to actually
feel it. When you start cramping for
reall then they need to actually feel how
thinned-out the cervix is, but until the
water breaks, it isn't really necessary
and is just another infection risk.
