Painful Interruption of Stream
Posted: 01-06-05 15:59pm

Every time I urinate my stream comes to an abrupt halt about halfway through. This interruption is sometimes brief (1-2 sec) and painless, but usually it is more like 10-15 sec and accompanied by pain in my upper urethra. The more urgently I have to pee, the longer the interruption seems to be. In the worst cases, I not only feel intense sharp pain in my urethra/bladder but also a dull ache in one or both kidneys until such time as my stream resumes.

This does not seem to be related to apprehension or stage fright since it is as common when i'm alone as in public restrooms.

Stream interruption is not coming from involuntary contraction of kegel muscles, as I can feel that these are relaxed at the time.

Occurrence is very consistent, varying only in intensity. This has happened every time I have peed for several years. It began immediately after removal of a urinary catheter which had been in place for ~7 days after major surgery.

Anyone been successfully treated for this?

Thanks.
