Hi-
i had my surgery 3 months ago and
everything has been going great. Only
thing is that lately i've noticed that
i've been losing more hair than usual.
I've been good on my protein intake and
make sure to get at least 30-40 grams a
day, so i'm thinking it must be the
vitamins. The suggested ones to take
were flintstones complete chewables and
viative calcium chewables. I'm also
taking b12. I'm sure that they meant for
me to take the flintstones during the
recovery period only since they're
chewable. Now it obviously seems like
flintstones wouldn't be good to take
long-term. What the nutritionist told me
before was that I would need 400mcg folic
acid, 66mg iron, 1000mg calcium and 500mcb
b12 a day. I haven't been able to find a
multivitamin that has all that. If
anyone out there who's had the surgery a
while ago and is taking good vitamins,
please let me know what brand and where I
can get it. Thank you!!
You should try a prenate chewable
vitiamin....I take those...My health ins
covers the cost of them....I also take
extra folic acid extra viactin calcium and
vitamin b12 shot monthly.....I guess I am
going to have to start taking extra iron
too ...Hope this helps yea!

Gastric Bypass And Vitamins Posted: 03-25-05 01:12am
I am four years and 8 months post bypass
and taking your vitamins is always going
to be important. The reason you may
wish to continue the chewables is that
they are more readily absorbed by your
shorter digestive tract. My surgeon
tracked by levels carefully for two years
every three months and now I make sure
they are checked yearly.
You can never obtain enough vitamins from
food and don't make a mistake and forget
that. I still take protein though not as
often, usually in the morning. When I
skip my calcium, I have gas and diarrhea.
I used to order a vitamin I like called
vita-for life that was developed for gbp
patients. Now I take two centrum, and 3
calcium and I am on hrt to make sure I
absorb enough.
I actually lost more weight than I thought
I would and had to work hard to gain
weight back. I did not like that gaunt
look many of us get after the first weight
loss, but your body levels out and you
start to absorb a few more nutrients and
if you take your protein, your energy and
skin tone looks and feels healthy. Good
luck, I hope this helps you.

I only take the flintstones chewables and
my vitamin levels have been fine.
