I'm the one that posted last january about the 'crazy headed feeling in my head'... I had my gb out last march and the 'dizziness' went away.. Haven't had it since... Sad thing is... I had that 'feeling in my head' since the fall of 96 along with a 'too low for gb' pain in my right side at waist level. I'm 9 mo post op and doing great!!! And I eat fat... I've gained back 20 lbs that I lost when I was so sick last jan and feb because I have added back the fat.... I don't eat near as much fat as I did before last xmas... But I don't have to watch it.

I've seen a chiropractor for two years now on a regular basis and he wasn't able to help my diseased gb... My surgeon was laughing (and he's all for chiropractic) and saying in all his years of practice he's never seen a sick diseased gb revive itself... Especially after being icky for so long. My chiro is very good... Got rid of my migraines and low back pain!!

I was waiting for my hida scan results when I posted in jan... It came back at 39%.. Which is 4% above the 'norm'... So all my tests were normal.. No stones.... I just had all the 'typical' diseased gb symptoms... Was willing to try anything to feel better....

No more right sided pain at waist... No more rib pain, dizziness, fatigue, I could go on.... :) I am on nexium for reflux... If I don't take that I get some sternum pain and a little back pain straight through from the sternum area.

To me... Risking losing my gb was worth the chance just to get some relief.

What is the hydascan like? I go in next week to get the test done. I also get dizzy, mostly when my stomach is feeling full (upper). I'm a bit nervous and have had pain on my left side not the right side. It's been tender for about 7 months or so.

For the hida scan, I was lying on a narrow table for about two hours. There was a large machine over and around me, except one side was open that I could look out of. The top of the machine was about 8 or 9 inches above my head, but I could see the ceiling in part above me (ie. You're not totally enclosed).
One arm had the intravenous in it. The other arm I could not move because of the machine being so low over my body.

They put radioactive dye in the intravenous so that they can see an image of your gallbladder on a screen. It goes into your liver first and then out the ducts and into your gallbladder.

When I looked to the side, I noticed a computer screen with an image that refreshed every about once a minute. I realized that it was showing my gallbladder. Just as I realized that, the technician came in and said that the bright spot was my gallbladder, but that it was taking a long time to show up. I asked her what that meant and she said that it could mean that I had a blockage. It turned out that my test result was only 11.7%. It should be 35% or more.

While I was laying there, they played soft music, but I could not fall asleep. I was wishing that they had put a small tv off to the side that I could watch tv. It's boring to lie there for two hours. After an hour, they put a substance in the intravenous that causes your gallbladder to contract. You may have slight pain. I didn't have pain, but my whole body shuddered for about 10 minutes and I was sort of hyperventilating. I just had to endure it. That was probably the most uncomfortable part.

By the end, I just wanted to get up off the table and out from under the machine. I have no idea what I thought about for two hours. As I said, they should put a tv off to the side so you can watch it. If your liver, gallbladder, and ducts aren't blocked, it may take you less time than it took me.

I had pain on my left side too.. It jumped around... The back pain was awful... And the sternum area pain... And of course the right sided rib area pain...

Good luck with you hida scan next week... It didn't bother me... Laying there was boring but when the injected the dye stuff it just made me gurgle... :) some get very sick.. But my hida came back at 39% so that may be why it was easier.

It's been almost 10 months since my yiggy gb came out! I feel better and better all the time.. No more dizzy... No more pain... No more fatigue!

I would do it again in a new york minute!

Sorry getting silly... It's late and I need to go to bed! :)

Ive had episodes where I get light headed feeling like im going to hit the floor..My dr's had no clue either, primary dr said ohhh its from the gastritis, gastro dr says nope, cant be...People that I know that have had a bad gallbladder all claimed to have that same "dizzy " feeling...I would usually get that feeling right before I had to run to the bathroom and vomit...My b/p would go up a little from that also, dr's say b/p goes up when you get sick , who knows im done listening to them at this point...I found a surgeon, the gallbladder will be coming out on january 25th...32% function with no stones, but sick and pain everyday...Hope all these symptoms stay away after that....Good luck...:-)

Good luck to you gemini!!! :) it has made a major difference in my life to be gallbladderless! On one of the gb boards I read that sometimes the gb can press on the vagus nerve and cause all kinds of trouble including dizziness... Never heard that before but it makes sense..

I have had a 'crazy headed feeling' for almost nine yrs now.. It went bye bye when the gb did... I still have gerd ... So my gastritis wasn't causing that awful feeling... Wasn't room spinning but just felt strange... One time in urgent care.. I told the doc I felt that feeling right then and he grabbed the blood pressure cuff ... Said my bp dropped 20 pts since the nurse took it when I walked in... So he thought it was bp related... But just shrugged his shoulders! Arghhhhh

my surgeon said he sees more and more everyday how much trouble a not functioning properly gb can cause.... And not just the 'classic' symptoms.... Wishi had gone to him 9 yrs ago! But I didn't think anything about it being gb related then... Till the nausea came on... And the right sided pain moved higher than the crazy waist level pain... And they told me I had ibs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

let us know how you do! :)

Hey haredresser...Thanks for the reply and well wishes...After you had your gb removed about how long was your recovery? My dr says I should be fine within a few days, up and going about my normal day to day, somehow I just dont see that happening...And ugggg I cant even imagine dealing with this for 9 yrs like you had...The past 9 months was enough for me! (i hope you get this reply , I am new to this and cant figure out what the heck im doing on this board )...Thanks again...Gem :-)

Don't believe that bit about being fine in a few days. I was in a lot of pain for 7-10 days. At night, I woke up every three hours and had to take a pain pill. I went through the whole bottle of pain pills that the doctor gave me (percoset). I didn't get out of the house for 10 days, and even then, I did not want to drive any distance. My doctor allowed me two weeks off from work, and I needed every bit of it. It is now 2 1/2 week after surgery and I still get very tired.

Gallbladder
Posted: 01-26-06 08:42am

My 17 yr old daughter has been sick for almost 2 yrs. She has had cervical cancer, tumors removed from her breast(benign),t & a, appendix removed, cyts removed from her ovaries, and 10 surgeries. For the past month she has been vomiting after she eats. No weight loss, her back hurts, stomach pains. We finally got a hida scan, and she has a decreased infraction of 12.4, does this mean she needs her gallbladder removed, her doctor is sending her to a surgeon. Please let me know something asap. Thank you

Nice (in a relief sort of way) to see some others out there with dizzyness or light headed feeling. Mine happens shortly after I eat, may depend on the type of food, fatty or not, not sure yet. But it is scary, feels like my heart skipped a few pumps and begin to lose blood in the head or something. All is fine if I lay down flat. I am a 37 year old active male. But I have been battling digestive discomfort for the past 8 years getting worse all the time. I have frequent dull pain below right ribs and occassional sharp stabs there as well. I had the hida scan a year or so ago and came back with 80% gb function and sludge in the gb but no visable stones. I want to save my gb and so have tried fast/flush routines which feels good and produce the green pebbles (so claimed as gall stones or liver stones) but pain and fatigue resume shortly after I start eating again.

This is very irritating. I can feel great, out and about, but stop for lunch and suddenly everything changes and I just want to lie down somewhere for a while.

I don't like doctors or medicines, want to be clean and healthy, but maybe it is time to consider having the gb out. My wife had hers out with a liver surgery a few years ago, since then she has had issues with getting diarrhea during or shortly after a meal depending on the food type. There have been many meals at restaurants when she has had to leave the table for a while. I don't want that to happen to me but it may not be the same for everyone.

Strange Question
Posted: 03-10-06 13:17pm

After 2 - 3 years of pain under my right ribs and everything (i.E. Ultrasounds) coming back with everything "okay," I went back a third time and sludge was found in my gall bladder. I was told it was more than likely a matter of time before the gb would need to come out. I put that bit of info in the back of my mind and went on my merry way... Until then next time I was bothered by pain (4 months later). I finally got tired of the pain - not bad, but annoying - and am scheduled to get it out since it's not functioning correctly anyways.

The strange thing is... And I put it off as a symptom of the gb, my shoulder joint was very painful from the onset of the gb flare-up. However, I woke up this morning and my shoulder no longer hurt, but my right hip is absolutely killing me! It hurts so badly I almost can't stand it and my eyes almost tear up. I have a high threshold for pain, but this is ridiculous! Has anyone ever heard of any kind of correlation between the gb and joint pain?

Just wondering...

Wow... This was actually very helpful to me. I know that I have biliary colic but what I didn't know or was never informed of is that it can cause dizziness. Shocked it makes sense to me though.. I get very motion sick any time when I have an attack and extremely dizzy before to the point where if I stand I will vomit just from the dizziness that it causes me. I can always tell when I will have an attack within an hour even if an onset of pain has not yet begun simply because I start getting very dizzy and motion sick.

I have had gallbladder problems for a year. In november I had a really bad attack and got very dizzy at the same time. I had the hida scan done and it was 13% functioning. I am having it out next month and I am so hoping the dizziness goes away. The surgeon doesn't think it has to do with my gallbladder but I think it is weird that it started during a gallbladder attack! I wish I knew why as well. I've tried ready about dizziness and gallbladder function as well and haven't found much.

My wife had her gallbladder removed on jan. 3rd. She is over the pain and most of the symptoms have subsided. Now yesterday she started having dizzy spells. Just mild ones at first. A little light-headedness. Tonight, she has extreme dizziness every ten minutes or so. It only lasts for a minute but she has to grab something or risk falling down.

Is this common? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I be overly concerned?

A worried husband,

This is all very interesting....I'm at the point where my surgeon has said I could have my gallbladder removed even with all of my negative tests. I've had several episodes lately where I get dizzy for no reason....maybe that's just one more symptom to add to my list.

My dizzy gallbladder problems?
Posted: 03-15-08 18:14pm

I am set to have my gallbladder out in the next week. I too have been getting dizzy only after eating. This is a new symptom though. I have only been experiencing this over the last week or so. It kind of worries me and I have been wondering if this is related to my gallbladder. I have had 2 ultrasounds, 1 hida/cck, and plenty of bloodwork. My blood only showed an elevated billirubin, everything else was normal. My hida returned a 70% ejection but the CCK injection triggered the same pain I have been going through over the last 2 months. My ultrasound showed some gallbladder sludge. Is this dizziness really related to my gallbladder?

I remember reading that sometimes the gall bladder routes the bile through the pancreas when it is not functioning right. This can cause dizziness along with other symptoms like hypoglycemia. A person can even exhibit symptoms of pancreatitis, so it can be hard to tell what is going on. I experienced something like this over the winter when my gall bladder was bothering me a lot more. All these organs are connected and work together, so if there is a problem with one organ there is most likely going to be problems with the other.
