Q: Quitting the Pill...missed Periods...long, But Please Read!

I have been on birth control for a year and a half, but switched to a higher dosage pill in september. I switched because I was not having my periods during the inactive pills, but during the active ones and was still having cramps- part of the reason I was on the pill was to reduce these.

My first period after switching to these pills was fairly light in october, followed by no period at all in november, december, and now january brought nothing again. I am now engaged and decided this month to discontinue the pill as we are beginning natural family planning courses. I finished my inactive pills on sunday, and have not been taking anything at all the past 3 days. I have yet to have a period.

I took a pregnancy test in december that came up negative. I do not seem to have any signs of pregnancy- no breast tenderness, etc. The last time I had unprotected sex while on the pill was at the end of october- every other time was using a condom the pill. Therefore, if I am missing my periods because of pregnancy, I would have to be nearly 3 months along!

I am considering taking another pregnancy test to ease my nerves, but I need some feedback on this. Is it normal to miss so many periods? Shouldnt I be menstruating after getting off the pill? Or is it normal to have no period after stopping? Please help!

I worry that the results of my last test could have been skewed. Tmi, but I pee a lot- not a recent thing, just always have. Could have have messed up the results? Should I wait until tomorrow morning to take another test or go ahead and do it today? I'm getting very nervous about it :(

Hey...When getting off of b/c pills almost 2 years ago, I had the same problem. I finished my last "period" pills and stopped. I was in a serious relatioship and sexually active. When the next month passed and there was no period I was shocked.(figuring I would continue w/ my regular cycle.) immedietly I thought I was pregnant. Weeks went by, and so did the preg. Tests. All were neg. I went to the doctor for a blood and urine screening for the smallest amount of the preg. Hormone. ....Nothing. I then went to my ob/gyn and she told me that if a person stopped the pill after being on it for longer than a yer, it could possible take your body the same amount of time to restart. It took me exactly 35 weeks to regain a normal cycle. I guess my body figured that w/out the pill, I must be preg.
All I cal say is to go to your doc and ask for/about "medroxyprogesterone". It's a pill, taken for 10 days that forces your body to ovulate and bleed. Ater the 10 days, there is a 14 day waiting period. If your are hoping to get preggy, your best bet would be in those 14 days. I really hope that I provided some help!! Let us know!!

I'm not looking to get pregnant until after the upcoming wedding in october which is why i'm freaking out- all of this planning and monetary pre-wedding deposits going down the drain!

I took another test this evening, and it was negative. I waited over 4 hours to pee again (a very long time for me!).

I bought another test, as suggested, to take tomorrow morning. I honestly don't know how I could be pregnant, but I have never missed periods before so I am very freaked out. Thank you so much for your advice! If tomorrow's test is negative, I will call the doctor to find out what is going on.

Getting Off the Pill
Hi, i've been off the pill for 2 months and had a regular period last month. And it's been 3 weeks since my due date. I freaked and took several tests all negative. So I went to the doctors and his urine test negative as well. He said that it's normal to have abnormal periods when getting off the pill which I was on for 7 years.

The doctor won't do a blood test b/c it's too early.
I read one of the forums and had the same thing but her blood test was positive.

Should I go in for blood test?

Same Problem Here
I have been on the pill continuously for the past six years. I stopped taking it two months ago, and I have not had a period since. After reading many postings, I am beginning to think this is a normal occurence. But I am also concerned because I have experience weight gain as well. I was wondering if this may be another side effect of quiting the pill. I feel like I have had my pre-period bloating for the past two months. Has this been an issue for anyone else?

After reading your posts I have now become worried as I have quit the pill after 8 years as my husband and I want to start trying in march 06 my first period was on time 28days after my last one on the pill started can I expect to start missing periods and it was just by chance my first one came on time?

I have two sisters with endometrosis (sorry spelling) and they have bad periods (both told none to slight chance that can have children, both with kids) I was put on the pill at 16 just incase I have no idea it was my doctor who suggested this but I have had a laproscapy (again spelling) 4 years ago and have the all clear.

I am interested as my husband has given me a surprise trip to italy for my bday and we leave on the day my period is due again and I dont want to worry the whole time I am away, so please if you get your first one on time does that mean my body is already back on track or not?
