Does any one in your family have a cleft lip??? I'm sure you have nothing to worry about. I think it's "baby's coming soon" paranoia!!!

Nope..Knowone had it in my family or his. I just talked with a woman at american pregnancy and she told me if he didn't have it then than he won't have it now, that, that was something that is diagnosed early in pregnancy. I think it is the pre-term thing of labor getting closer. I can only imagine how im gonna be when he get's here! I guess we all go threw this, I just want him to be very healthy and ok. Thank you so much for your response, im just a really big worry wort, i'll feel much better when he get's here and I can lay my eyes on him!! :d

so they can tell from an ultrasound if a baby has cleft lip? I thought it would take additional testing. What else can be told from an ultrasound besides that and sex? I have always wondered that....?

an u/s can show alot of things but no it cant tell you for sure. They do have to do other test for abnormalites, like what they are doing right now for me. A high resolution scan, some blood test need to be done and etc. But no an u/s can not indicate 100% that there is a cleft lip.

An u/s can also show the kidneys bladder and the heart and etc. This is how they check for functioning. They also check that fat on the back of the babies neck to indicate if the baby may have down syndrome. If the fat is below a ertain number then they send you for more testing. The rest im not sure about this is just what is going on with me right now and I have asked alot of questions. I hope I answered you

My little sister has a cleft lip, and they told my mom at 19 weeks. That is something that they definetly can see. She is the most beautiful girl in the whole world. They would have to tell you if they saw something. I wouldnt stress about it because there is nothing that can be dome about it now. It would still be your beautiful baby. Good luck, and if your really worried about it then ask your doctor about it.

The cleft lip would have to start around the 4-5th week of pregnancy, and as such, if it was not present earlier, it wouldn't be present now. The u/s pictures are just a snapshot, whereas the actual u/s examination is an ongoing stream of imaging that will show everything from several angles.

I don't see anything for you to worry about. If they found the lip to be normal earlier, then it is still normal.
