As indicated you will receive an injection
in the back of your hand or in your arm.
This normally be done by a specialist
working with your dentist on set days each
week.
You should be monitored throughout the
process and experience no problems, you
will have little or no memory of the work
being done.
This is a better option than having a ga,
but will normally mean someone
will need to collect you from the dentist
and drive you home.
I would not be concerned

Mike is correct.
You will have an iv placed in your hand,
or your arm (the "pit" of your elbow)
this will be done by an anesthesiologist,
who will stay with you through the entire
procedure, to make sure that the sedation
process runs smoothly.
The anesthesiologist will monitor your
heart and breathing with monitors. You
will probably have oxygen placed over your
nose to make breathing easier while you
are asleep.
The iv goes in, and when he is ready, he
will administer the medicine slowly, you
will start to feel a little light headed
and tired, and you will drift off to
sleep. When the procedure is finished,
they stop giving you the medication, and
you wake up! Simple as that.
You wont remember a thing!
It's really nothing to get worried about
it. When it's all over, you will look
back and ask yourself "what was I all
worked up about?"
good luck!

The process effects people differently,
but you can expect to feel
a little fuzzy or tired for a few hours
after the procedure.
You want be allowed to leave the dentists
office until they are confident that you
will be fine.
If you are having bottom teeth removed you
can expect a moderate a amount of
discomfort for 1 to 2 days, if its upper
teeth then you will
notice less discomfort.

Mike, I didn't know that! Uppers don't
hurt as much? I wonder why..?
Tooth, mike is right, everyone does react
differently to it, I took my brother to
get dental surgery done, and when he woke
up, he was ready to go, like "ok can I go
home now?"
i've had 6 teeth pulled (yes six!!!!) all
4 wisdom, and 2 molars (both on the
bottom) over 3 visits, and each time I was
put to sleep. (i'm a big baby when it
comes to pain... Anything and I mean
anything to avoid pain!
When I wake up, I usually need to sit for
a few minutes, i'm usually light headed,
or a bit dizzy, and a little
disoriented... But that doesn't last
very long.
One of my visits, by the time I woke up,
the novacaine had already begun to wear
off, and I was feeling a little pain, so I
simply asked for another shot of
novacaine. The doctor was more than
willing to give it to me... So don't be
afraid to ask for whatever you need.
They don't want you to be uncomfortable or
in pain.
Dental work of any kind is never fun, and
i'm sorry that you have to have the work
done.
Come back and let us know how it went!

Hi,
i'm a newbie to this board, but I have
decades of dental
experience...(unfortunately)
my 4 wisdom teeth were pulled while I was
asleep and the procedure itself was not a
big deal. Had a fair amount of swelling
and a little pain afterward though.
I also had 2 upper molars pulled while
awake. Not a pleasant experience, but it
wasn't painful.
If you are terribly anxious, ask your
dentist if you can have a valium or
something before the procedure. It will
really mellow you out. but, bottom line
is that they won't let you suffer. Try
not to let any past bad experiences ruin
your opinion of all dentists. I've had
my share of bad ones, but there are plenty
of great ones out there too.
