Wondering If Someone Can Answer My Question....?
Posted: 01-14-05 22:10pm

Im a 15 year old femal who plays jv basketball and is very active in other sports too...... During my jv volleyball season I must have done something to my right knee..... It hurts to the point where alls I can do is cry sometimes and im not one to cry over such things as pain..... The pain is on the left inside of my right knee around my knee cap and there is pain on the right side of it too....... I cant figure out wut I could have done...... When I stand up from a desk, chair, couch, or something to sit on I have to either balance myself on something or else I fall right back down into my seat because my knee just gives right out on me....... It also gives out as I start to go down stairs......... Then when I run or walk I have noticed that my knee and leg seem to go out to the right...... If anyone has any information please help because I need to get back to my ruteen of bball! Thanks

Sounds like you blew your knee out, possibly torn a ligament. It's difficult to recommend anything over the internet.. You will have to see a health care professional. You likely will not be playing b-ball for a while to come and will require a knee brace to help you maintain your balance and strength.

Proper healing will take 3 months to a year, depending on the extend of damage. This will include the use of a brace, seeing a chiropractor regularly, and taking some medications / adjusting your diet. If it is a torn ligament, you will have to take it easy... All because it "seems" like it's fine again, doesn't mean it's ok to start playing ball again. Since you've injured both your ankles and knee in the past few years, I can say that you're going to really need to strengthen your legs with some light weight exercises and cardio exercises that will not put much pressure on your legs. (i.E. No sprints, no treadmill, no eleptical). It will make a huge difference in your game too.

See a doctor so you can get the healing process started asap. The longer you wait, the more damage can be done, and the longer you'll be out of the game for. So don't wait around for this... If you're serious about playing, make sure you get the full treatment. See a specialist.

And when you're all better i'll challenge you to a game of 1-on-1... :p

hope this helps,
justin
