Tuberculosis, Mother And Child Posted: 01-17-05 06:40am
I am suffering from active tuberculosis
and am on combination of drugs -
isoniazid, ethambutol and rifampicin. I
started the drug on 23/12/2004 and had to
stop because my liver tests reading were
abnormal. Doctor had instructed me to
start after 1 week of gap with one tab.
And then gradually increase up to 6 tab.
I am mother of 1 months old baby and she
is also on 5 ml isoniazid elixir.
I have few q -
1) is it safe to give elixir at this age?
Will it not affect her growth?
2) I am having unbearable symptoms of
vomiting giddiness and sometimes not able
to retain food. What shall I do?
3) is it safe to be on and off the
medication?
4) what is my future? Will I ever be able
to come out of this pathetic situation?

I hope you are doing better. I had the
same thing happened to me. I was also
sick with active tb on the lymph nodes and
I had to give my daughter who was 3 months
old at the time inh syrup. It was a
horrible experience.
I am still recovering from tb. My baby
is doing fine. The second time they did
the ppd skin test on her, it was negative
for tb. I hope your baby is also doing
well.
