Well mom,
i guess you have to respect your sons
decision. Adam is the age that people
mature and begin to live their lives the
way they want. This is when young adults
start thinking about marriage, school,
careers, etc... In this case, his
disease. Of course he's considering your
advice, but he doesnt necessarily have to
go by it. Before any problems start, wait
his decision out till his eeg in
novemeber, considering its not that long
away. See how things go... Relax and let
him make this dicision. As for his
doctor, I think he/ she is just respecting
what adam wants. Every doctor has to go
by what his/her patient wants, and
confidentiality is the law. Thats not the
doctors decision. Look at this way...
Teens go on birth control all the time
whether their parents like it or not.
It's kind along the same line. So, talk
to your son, and dont force your opinions
on him yet. I'm sure this is hard for him
too.
Best of luck,
sarah

Son Took Hisself Off Meds, Doctor Is Going Along With It Posted: 10-28-03 14:50pm
My son is 19 and first had a seizure when
he was 12 yrs old. He was diognosed with
epilepsy and has been on depokote since
then. We weee told he had a grandmal
seizure.
He has been took off his med 2 times to
see if he had outgrown his seizure
disorder. But would have one within a
months time.
We were told he could outgrow them and
that some people have more genetics that
cause seizures even if there is no family
history of it.
I had a cousin that was a epileptic all
her life she passed away this july at 49.
She had a seizure in her sleep and
suffocated.
My son adam has done very well on low
dosage of depokote .
His doctor now thou told him that he was
only keeping him on his med so he could
drive.
My son took hisself of of his med after
this visit . Well he went back today to
talk with doctor because I insisted he be
reevaluated and get his blood levels took
. The doctor told him that he cannot
discuss my sons condition with me since he
is 19 ( 20 in december)
the doctor told him to stay off his med
and he would schedule him for a eeg in
november.
Im wondering if this doctor is a good
one.
My son moved into his own apartment a
month ago and thinks now he doesnt have to
listen to me or my advice .
So im stuck in the middle so to speak .
Any suggestions or has anyone dealt with
this .
Let me hear from you
thanks
