Wisdom Teeth Removal - Swelling Came Back? Posted: 01-23-05 19:26pm
Hello everyone,
first off, I would like to say that I did
try to search for this under google as
well as the search provide for this site.
I couldn't find anything on my issue;
however, if this has already been asked
and answered please point me in that
direction so as to not create redundant
posts.
Well, on to my issue. On new year's eve,
I had to get my wisdom teeth removed.
The process was painless since I requested
to be fully knocked out. Even the
recovery wasn't too bad. There was
swelling, but I took my medication and ate
soup for a week or two. I kept my teeth
cleaned and used that squirter that was
given to me to help remove food that may
happen to get lodged between the gum and
inner cheek. Just recently the last of
the stitches finally came out and it feels
as if everything has healed up properly.
There's no soreness or anything.
However, maybe a day or two after the last
stitching fell out it seems that my right
cheek has started to swell up again.
Now, I had only 3 wisdom teeth to be
pulled the fourth just isn't there. On
my left was the upper jaw and on the right
was both the top and bottom jaw. It
feels more like the new swelling is more
on the bottom jaw. Now, none if it hurts
and my teeth don't feel sensitive if apply
any pressure. Also, i've heard rumors
that people's gums have swollen up a bit
weeks after a dental surgery. Usually
due to the shot that is given to numb the
gums. As, I am not a dentist or anything
I don't know if those rumors are true or
not.
So, my question is simply, is this a
common thing that happens and the swelling
will go down after a few days?

Call the oral surgeon who removed your
teeth. You may have a secondary infection
or maybe some food is logded down deep
where you can't remove it.Good luck to
you.
