pulsing ringing in my left ear Posted: 04-02-08 11:03am
Hi there, I am 56 years old and it has
been 8 months now that I have that pulsing
sound in my left ear in rhythm with my
heartbeat. I woke up one morning and it
was there. Since then I have seen 2 ENT
doctors, neurologist and have taken a cat
scan, ultra sound and an MRA. Still have
no answers as to what could maybe the
cause. I have also seen a cardiologist
and I am also now on blood pressure and
cholesterol medicine. Does anyone have
any possible remedies that would help to
relieve the constant pulsing?

Sorry, I had to become a member and forgot
your name...
Anyway, there's a condition called benign
proximal postitional vertigo (BPPV). I'd
advise you to see a neurotologist about
this, as it can be corrected by what's
called the Epley manuver. There are these
calcium deposits called otoliths in the
inner ear that can become displaced for
some reason. A good neuroto will know how
to help you with this. They're a rare
breed of MD's; best bet would be to look
for a Balance Disorders Clinic if you
can't find one outright.

Pulsatile Tinnitus Posted: 05-28-08 13:33pm
I woke up Christmas Eve morning with both
ears stopped up. I went to urgent care
and was told I had a double ear infection
and was prescribed antibiotics and a
steroid. It didn't help. I went to my GP
and he said ears were fine. I went to an
ENT and was prescribed meds again, didn't
help. I had myringotomy- it didn't help.
I had a CT scan of my sinusis. I had a
growth in my adenoids - it was removed and
I had tubes put in both ears. Here it is
the end of May and the pulsing heartbeat
is still there 24/7. It is worse in the
evenings - I has an MRI, MRA and
Ultrasound of my Carotid arteries today.
In some ways you don't want anything to be
wrong but then again - where do you go
from here if nothing is found? The
pulsing drives me crazy most of the time -
I try to ignore it. It is easier to
ignore during the day with other noises
around. If nothing shows up from all this
testing - do I just give up and learn to
live with it?

Ive had this heartbeat sound in my ear for 8 whole yrs... Posted: 06-10-08 15:46pm
Im 27 now and still suffering from this.
The first time I exp the heartbeating
noise in my left ear, (8 yrs ago) I wasnt
getting over a ear ache or I didnt have
problems with my blood pressure but I did
have the worst migrane. My migranes
started when I was pregnant with my my
first child.
I dont know if the migrane had anything to
do with it.
But Im really tired of it, Im loosing my
hearing and yea it helps when I put
pressure on my neck to hear. I did this so
much that my neck became swollen and was a
bit painfull. I havnt seen a Dr. yet but
I will soon.

Ringing in my left ear Posted: 06-11-08 13:32pm
I have had ringing in my left ear for at
least 8 years now. I have been through all
of the test and everything has come back
normal except for the fact that i burst my
eardrum about 15 years ago and i have scar
tissue in my ear. No one can give me any
real answers or help me in any
way........... IT'S DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!
My last ENT appointment, the doctor told
me that we could try getting tubes in my
ear and if that didn't work i would have
to live with it. i wanted to tell him that
he could have it and he could live with
it........any advice?????

Thank goodness its not just me! Posted: 06-28-08 22:47pm
Ive had the swooshing in my right ear for
over 9 months now. It started after a
pretty nasty headcold last fall and its
not let up since. I read one of the posts
ehre that they would breath deep and it
would stop. I tried that and as long as I
am taking long deep breats it stops! Of
course as soon as I stop its back. It also
stops when I press on certain areas of my
neck on that side as well. Through out the
day its not as bothersome, but at night
when its quiet...its enough to drive a
person insane.

Ps...whats with the right ear? Nearly all
of these posts it seems the person suffers
this in his/her right ear.

Thank goodness I found this!! Posted: 07-04-08 11:56am
I have been having Left ear
swooshing/heartbeat as I described to the
doctor as hearing a baby ultrasound. I
had this problem for at least 4 years.
The first time I went to a regular doctor
he told me to just try to eat steak and
chew gum!!! Pay at the door, thank
you......So after letting it go for a
couple more years I go to a
specialist....he looks at me like I'm
weird and then sends me to get an MRA of
the brain. My test results read negative,
he said that my arteries we were they
should be and kinda told me see-ya, there
is nothing I can do for you. He did tell
me I could go to a ear place in
Pittsburgh, Pa but after reading this and
some of the test the other people got done
I'm not sure I want to go through with all
that and them saying sorry, we don't see
anything. But as most other people mine
also stops when I push on my vein on the
side of my deck. And I am also recently
starting the popping/crackling mostly in
the mornings. I wish someone could find
an answer to this. When I get a headache
it is intensified 10 times.

Wow, well glad I found this page. I am
curious as to how many of you have
actually had this go away, it sounds like
not many. The pulsing in my head started
about a week or so ago. It isn't coming
from a specific ear. It sounds like it is
in the back of my head. And when I plug
one ear, the pulsing stops or gets much
much quieter, but the sound in my ear
sounds like a motorcycle idling. Pressing
on the veins doesn't help. I went to an
ENT dr and he found nothing wrong with my
hearing, balance, ears or throat. I have
not been sick recently. But I have felt a
couple times that I was either coming down
with something, or spacey, or dizzy. Now I
am feeling some sinus pressure and wonder
if this might be the cause. I am also
breastfeeding and heard anemia can cause
this and I would be more susceptible to
anemia while breastfeeding. The Dr just
gave me a vaso dialator, but I won't take
it cuz I'd have to give my girl formula
then...yuk! I am thinking of trying
another dr and just praying this will go
away!! I am also starting my iron
supplements... I'll keep you all updated.

oh, yeah, I forgot to say, I also had a
transatlantic flight and ultrasonic tooth
cleaning just a week before this all
started. Not sure if that might be related
or not, but thought I would add it. I
think I would like to get some sort of
scan to see if my sinuses are plugged or
if my veins are too close to the eardrum
or if my veins are blocked. What kind of
scan would show this??

I am a 23 year female that also has the
same godawful heartbeat noise in my right
ear 24/7. I thought I was the only one!
I can press on my neck under my ear and
the noise stops. mine started over 3
years ago after i had a cold. i have been
to several doctors and everyone of them
think i'm crazy, one doctor actually told
me to duck tape a small ball to my neck to
make the noise stop, come on you have got
to be kidding me! i have had a angyogram,
venogram,ct, mri, ekg and everything else
you can possible think of. and of course
everthing came back normal. i went to
another ent today and found my hearing in
my "good ear" is deterating. the doc told
me that he was puzzled but nothing seems
to be wrong and i should just try to live
with it. i am going insane and there is
noway i am able to ignore this. i have
heard some people can have a enlarged
blood vessel in the inner ear that can
cause the pulsating noise, the cure is to
have it carterized. unfortunately no one
can tell me if that is my probleme. if any
one find a cure pleae let us know!
