hair does not grow Posted: 10-29-03 14:21pm
I am 34 years old and I hope there is
someone out there that can help me......My
hair has been the same length since as
long as I can remember..The top part of my
hair grows very fast (bang area), but my
length does not move at all..I have tried
prenatal pills, vitemans, getting my hair
trimmed every 4 weeks, hair masks, weekly
oil treatments, eating right etc
etc....What else is there to do? I don't
understand why this is happening or what I
can do to make my hair grow past my
shoulders...Please help

Hi shawn, I used to have the same problem
as you. My hairdresser told me all the
time that I must have my hair trimmed
every 4 weeks, but you know what ? I had
enough of her cutting off my locks,
because I figured there is no way my hair
can grow faster than she is chopping it
off. So I haven't been to a hairdresser
in 5 years, that's right 5 years, I put up
with the split ends, and now 5 years
later, both my sister and I have very
thick shiny healthy hair down to our
bottoms. All you really need to do is
trim your fringe so it is not in your
eyes, you don't need to trim the rest of
your hair until it has some length, and
then only trim to keep it straight at the
bottoms, don't cut split ends out, they
will sort themselves out in time. You can
trim your hair yourself. Don't hack off a
lot, just a little. If it isn't enough at
least you can go back and cut a little
more, which is better than cutting off too
much, just make sure you buy a pair of
nice sharp scissors and keep them
especially for cutting your hair, blunt
scissors will only cause awful jaggered
edges. I am so happy I gave the
hairdresser the flick. They would love
you to keep coming back every 4 weeks for
a trim because that is regular income in
their pockets every week. Other things I
do to keep my hair healthy and growing, is
I avoid all hair colours, I don't even use
the semi permanent ones. They really
wreck your hair. I use pantene shampoo
and conditioner always. After washing and
conditioning my hair I apply schwarskopf
leave in conditioner. I don't blow dry
ever, it is a big no no, I let my hair air
dry. If you really have to use a
hairdryer, keep it on a low setting so it
is not so hot and only dry your hair until
it is slightly damp, then let your hair
air dry by itself. I know it is very hard
at first trying to do all these things,
because short hair can be very difficult
to control and style. But if you can be
patient and stick to all these things, I
am sure you will start to see some length
in your hair within the next couple of
months. And avoid the hairdresser, give
them a pair of scissors and they will
start chopping everything in site.
Good luck shawn

Lol, way to go suzy, giving the hair
dresser the boot! I don't have an answer
to this question, but I have a question of
my own:
it always confused me when people would
say, to get your hair to grow, you have to
trim it every "x" weeks. What? How in
the world does cutting the bottom of your
hair effect how fast it grows from the
root? Can this possibly be true?
There must be something to it, any
ideas?
