It was my gallbladder. Had it out april
6. I feel 100% now.
Hello- having a really bad pain
you need to get to your dr for the
symptoms you are having. It did take
awhile to figure out what was wrong in my
case...But they did eventually...& i'm
grateful to the dr's. Also a good
indicator of it being a gallbladder issue
is if you have pain in your rib
cage...After you eat a fatty meal, usually
accompanied by nausea.
Hello- surgeon vs. Gastro doc
i saw both dr's to determine it was my
gallbladder. Your doing the right thing
seeing both the surgeon & the gastro
Dr.
Hope everyone feels better soon...

i am so confused &

Hope these symptoms makes sense to someone
out there.
January 4- went to er for severe pain in
right upper quadrant. Also had pain in
right arm that radiated up into shoulder,
neck & jaw. They sent me home saying
it was just heartburn. General doctor
figured it was my gallbladder & also
that I have ulcers, since I have frequent
heartburn/sour stomach. Had two more
attacks thursday january 13, at 2am &
then around 7 pm. After attack had dull
achy heavy feeling below right rib. Now
the pain is just there most of the time,
achy...Very uncomfortable...More so when I
set. Thigh joints hurt for two days
following. Noticed pale stools for a few
days after these attacks as well, now back
to normal. Have felt lightheaded since
attack that sent me to the er. Blood
pressure has been lower then usual for me,
but i've also not been leaving the house
much, feel like crud most the time.
Tired, fatigued light head. This mostly
starts at night 6/7 pm. Light headed
feelings even there when lying down to go
to bed... Feels like my head is
swimming. Er blood tests showed slightly
elevated liver enzymes. Second blood
test a week later showed liver enzymes
down from previous week, but still
elevated. Ultrasound revealed a small
polyp in gallbladder 3,4mm. No stones.
Had a hida scan last thursday, came back
normal. My general doctor is sending me
to consult with a surgeon.
My questions are-- if my gallbladder is
working normally, no stones, just a small
polyp...What could be causing the pain
under my lower right rib? Also what
could cause slightly elevated liver
enzymes?
Thanks so much for the help...
Heather
heather,
... And the others in the group of you
that are suffering with heather. We
regularly see these symptoms in the
hospital. The gall bladder can have
"sludge" not necessiarily stones that
cause it to work improperly and make you
feel ...Awful. If this is the case, it
needs to come out. You may have more
than one problem. If your problem is
associated with eating, and you have light
stools, and your liver enzymes are up, and
you have pain, it's probably your gall
bladder. It might be sludge. In the
mean time, try the gall bladder diet.
Take all fat and all spicy foods out of
your diet until surgery. A totally bland
diet of cooked vegetables and oatmeal,
fish, will usually get you through. The
rule is "if it tastes good, spit it out"
good luck!

Hi laurie, rn,
thanks for your reply. :)
i posted later on in this post that I had
gallbladder surgery 4 months ago. It with
inflamed with adhesion's, & had
cholesterol polyps inside. At the
beginning the bland diet did help. I
found towards the end of my ordeal the
gallbladder diet did not help...Any food
& no food caused pain.
Hope everyone else who is suffering with
gallbladder troubles gets things resolved
quickly. I had been sick for 3/4
years...Nauseated on almost a daily basis
with numerous digestive issues. Had been
diagnosed with ibs... It was not till the
gallbladder pain/attacks kicked in back in
january that the gallbladder finally
manifested itself as being the culprit.
I've felt great since surgery. I don't
regret that decision one bit!!

Yikes, Scared... Posted: 08-18-05 15:36pm
Going the doctor now.. I found this board
last night. Thank goodness for the rn
posting... Since I don't have gallstones
so nobody has diagnosed me.. I have the
exact same symptoms as this board but
minus a major one (nausea) and add a weird
one (uh... Well, I have, after an
episode, bile in my fecal matter)..
For the last 7 years or so (i'm 34
now)... Well it started with minor
twinges under my right rib cage in one
specific area I thought it was liver but
it was sooo specific - just a spot under
the right rib cage. Over the years, it
escalated into full-on pain in bouts of
days (not hours like most have here??).
It comes with indegestion.
My liver enzymes are.. Ehh.. High-ish
but not crazy high and when I get retested
sometimes that are simply normol or
high-normal.
I've gone to the er (early on) i've had
the ultrasound... No gallstones.
The year, the pain has finally crept
around my back to exactly the same spot at
the front. When I lean back on my chair I
jump up. It's like.. An inflamation is
in there and my pushing/leaning on my
back's right side it hitting it.
The reason I am scared this time and i'm
going to take action is this bout is
simple not going away.. Also, I talked
with a lady who has had gallstones.. And
all the symptoms I have are just like hers
(same area, same sort of pain) only hers
it brought on by food - honestly, I don't
notice the food relation that much..
Maybe?).
But what scared me is when I asked,
expecting a yes, that if she had the same
bile problem in her stool (and one the
stool were pale after a bout) she looked
horrified and said "oh honey, you are much
worse than me. If your gallbladder is
distributing that much bile, it could kill
you"
last night, my face swoll up... Not
good, scared me - I ended up with a panic
attack. No other symptoms besides the
pain and the swollen face. I have a cold
so I don't now if the ill-times cold has
brought on a small fever (probably) or if
it's the gallbladder.
Well, I know it's not gallstones but my
first er visit, while living in new york,
the er doctor said "you have a gallbladder
that purges - it's not functioning
properly" and never again did anyone
diagnose it.
It's time for I can't stand the pain and
that face swelling really scared me!
Write in later, all be well!

I haven't been here in a while... Just
popped in to see what was going on... Hi
heather... :) this is where we met! ;)
oops.. I should call her blue.. :d
isn't it amazing what a nasty gb can do to
your body?? It seems everywhere I go now
someone is having gb troubles or is being
given the 'runaround' from their
doctors...Lol I have read some of the new
posts from people suffering... Stay on
your doctor... I had no stones but my gb
wasn't working properly.. All tests were
coming back normal.. Even my hida was 39%
.. Which doesn't seem normal to me but
the doc's go by 35% or less...
I had mine out on march 10 and continue to
do better all the time... Shoot.. Even
my bowels are finally starting to work ...
Hahaha I was having severe constipation
troubles after the surgery and they have
been working normal for two weeks now...
Doc said it could take some time... I'm
on nexium... But forgot to take it a
couple of days and seemed okay but i'm
scared to stop it... Flashbacks of 6
months ago.. Heehee I have gastritis
too.. And donna... Have you tried the
nexium?? The others weren't getting rid
of the nausea for me but the lil purple
pill works like a charm... It's spensive
but it's the only one that has worked for
me.... One of these days i'm gonna see
if I can stop it and be okay.
I had suffered for nine years... But they
never suspected gb troubles cause the pain
started lower (waist level) ..Was told it
was ibs.... I had a dizzy like crazy
headed feeling all that time... Gone when
the gb was removed... My right ring
finger would go numb from time to time...
Gone... Had bladder troubles... Would
sit and couldn't pee... Gone.. Now I go
like a race horse.... I could go on and
on... That lower right sided pain hasn't
been back and I never went 6 mo before
without a bout of it.... I eat anything I
want now.... Nothing hurts... Cept if I
eat too much at one time... ;) just went
on a cruise and we ate like babies..
Every three hours in the buffett...
Heeheeeee even at midnight and I didn't
have any troubles...
So if you doc says it's not your gb...
Get a 2nd opinion... Do have all the
tests and try nexium... For a few weeks
to see if it could be gerd... If it
doesn't help... Pursue gb troubles....
It has changed my life to be
gallbladderless!!

Pain Under Right Rib Posted: 09-07-05 15:31pm
My symptoms started with chest pains that
made me think I was having a heart attack.
Went to the doctor have had 3 ekg's,wore
a 24 hour halter monitor on heart and had
an echocardiogram everything came back
normal. Now I am having pain under my
right rib that comes and goes also on
ocassion back hurts. I also have noticed
lots of gas on my stomach. Have had
ultrasound on gallbladder which came back
normal. Had an upper gi done which showed
only a small amount of acid reflux nothing
to worry about says the doctor now they
have drawn blood to test my pancreas. Any
insight at this point from anyone would be
greatly appreciated. I now feel like a
lab rat being tested.
I had emergency gallbladder surgery about
3 years ago after a stone became logged in
my pancreatic duct. Gallbladder pain is
the worst pain in the world. I got it
20-30 minutes after everytime I ate and it
continued for about 2-3 hours afterwards.
I still get the ocassional attack which
is weird because I no longer have a
gallbladder. Overeating or drinking
excessive amounts of alcohol seem to bring
it on. Be prepared to spend countless
hours on the toilet after it is removed
though. I recently discovered
digestive enzymes (vitaminshoppe/gnc) and
they work well breaking down food properly
without the availability of a gallbladder!
Good luck with your surgery.
Also, I found that to ease the pain the
few days before surgery... Laying in a
fetal position seemed to be less painful
than walking around or anything else
really. When the pain in shooting
through your back, the fetal position is
almost instinctual. Oh and note:
post-surgery avoid at all cost malt
beverages like mike's hard lemonade and
the like (trust me on this, they will
immediately induce the severe pain!! This
has been the case with myself and many
others that I talk to) and do not consume
anything with codeine in it (again, within
15 minutes you will be crying in a fetal
position from the pain). If I think of
anymore tips I will share!!

Hello moongoddess,
one really good indicator of gallbladder
problems is if after you eat a high fat
meal...If within a half hour to a few
hours you get pain under the right side
along with nausea. Though at the end of
my ordeal before surgery, I was nauseated
most all the time & also had pain in
my right lower rib cage all the time. I
also had severe gallbladder attacks, which
feels much like contractions when giving
birth, but worse as there is no letup,
like with contractions. A diseased
gallbladder can do a myriad of strange
things to a person & so no two peoples
symptoms are alike.
The best advice I could give is that you
should see your family Dr. He/she can
help steer you in the right direction.

your symptoms sound a lot like how my pain
started, the bad chest pains followed by
all the other pains. I also had nausea
3/4 years prior to the pain kicking in.
You did no mention you had a hida scan
which is the test specifically for the
gallbladder. Of course mine came back
normal & my gallbladder was far from
it. .
With me, all the countless tests they did,
basically just ruled out any other problem
it could have been. And they finally
decided it had to be my gallbladder. My
surgery was this past april. It was
inflamed with adhesion's on the outside
& inside it had cholesterol polyps.
Hate to say it, but at this point they are
probably doing the same thing to you.
Running tests after test to rule out any
other causes.
Hang in there

Pain In Ribs And Tummy Posted: 09-22-05 20:31pm
Can anyone advise, 6 years I have been
feeling ordinary, of course all doctors
tell me I imagine pain!. Over the last
couple of weeks I have had a pain just
under my left breast into my ribs (on the
left) and into my shoulder blade. I
thought it was something to do with my
heart so I took myself to the gp I had an
ecg which was perfect blood presure was
perfect. Doc thought it was muscle
trouble, I have my doubts. Could it be
something to do with trapped wind. Ihave
a tender tummy, and often a not so nice
taste in my mouth sometimes I get quite a
bad pain in my rear end. Can anyone help.
I just want to feel normal. I am 39,
quite a good diet, don't smoke probably
could do with doing more exercise!

Gallbladder Pain! Posted: 09-26-05 16:34pm
:?: ok I have read through & feel like
you are explaining my symptoms. I have
been diagnosed with gallstones, after a
very painful attack, where I thought I was
having a heart attack. I waited weeks
for an abdo ultrasound which finally
diagnosed the condition. I am due to
have surgery next week, but was very
interested to hear about one symptom that
some of you have been getting. In the
last week or so, I can feel, what I can
only describe is like having a babys foot
pushing against the bottom of my ribs
(where they meet in the middle). Of
course all the normal things have run
through my head & yes I am panicking
abit, as to what else they may find next
week. I can only think that is where my
liver is & wonder what it is

Hi mums... :)
don't worry too much.. That will make you
worse... Ha that being said from someone
who is all fixed now! Eh??
I had that same 'babyfoot' feeling...
Felt like something was inside me.. When
I would lay down... And barely push my
rib sternum area it would hurt really
bad...Very tender... And would actually
feel like something was trying to push out
the back side.... It was so sore to
even touch my sternum area.. You know
that cartilage part where the ribs meet
just below the boobs!! And it felt
swollen, I thought I had a tumor or
something.... That went away a few months
after the yiggy gb came out... Doc said I
was all inflamed inside... And there is
no more babyfoot feeling... So hang in
there... I was worried about my liver and
pancreas... Was sooooooooo sickly it was
pitiful.... I have had to stay on nexium
though.... So not sure if the gerd caused
the gb trouble or vice versa..
Good luck getting well!!

Gallbladder Polyp Posted: 10-07-05 19:41pm
Hello, I am a 27 year old female. I
recently had an abdominal ultrasound done.
During the ultrasound a very small polyp
was found on my gallbladder. My doctor
said it was nothing to worry about and he
didn't recommend surgery. I am very
concerned and am not sure I agree with
him. The reason I was sent for the
ultrasound was because he thought I had
gallstones due to some slight pain under
the right ribcage and into my back.

Hi laura a, sorry to hear of your
troubles. I can understand your fears.
Your dr at this point may not be too
concerned or recommending surgery because
you are not exhibiting other severe
symptoms that are associated with
gallbladder disease. He may just
recommend you have an ultra sound every
six months to a year to make sure the
polyp does not get any bigger. But
since your uncomfortable with what your dr
told you, I would recommend getting a
second opinion just to make sure it not
something else & to ease your fears.
I saw 3 all together. My general
doctor, gastrointestinal dr & a
surgeon. They all agreed it needed
to come out. Their fear was the
polyp could be something bad. I was
also having excruciating gallbladder
attacks, constant pain in my right side,
along with back, chest pains &
numerous other pains. Also daily
nausea that I had for 3 years & had no
idea why. Diseased gallbladders are
mean little buggers, they can cause a
myriad of troubles/pains. Like you,
I had just the one polyp, so they thought.
When they removed my gallbladder
this past april there was more then one
cholesterol polyp. The gallbladder
was also inflamed with adhesion's all over
the outside of it.
