I was wondering if gout can get into the
fingers, and cause them to swell?

Certainly. But it's rather unusual,
especially if this is the first time you
have gout. A response to "do I have gout"
in this message board describes the
criteria for diagnosing gout used by the
rheumatologists. You may like to take a
look at it.

Hello,
thank you for your reply, but I have had
gout, many times over the years. My ancle
is the main joint it hits. I have had my
middle finger, to swell up and hurt. I
know all the medicines, and what to eat,
and not what to eat. I was wondering if
this is gout, or some other arthritis. I
thank you for your help.

Gout attacks most often start in parts of
the lower limbs -- big toes, ankles,
insteps, etc. As time goes by gout
begins to attack parts of the upper limbs
-- wrists, fingers, etc. Gout can
co-exist with different types of
arthritis.
Gout attacks are often triggered by
over-use, injuries, and flares of other
types of arthritis, in the gouty joints,
because under these unhealthy conditions
the ph of the joints drops to cause the
shedding of the urate crystal coatings and
trigger gout attacks. Keep the hands
and feet warm, avoid over-use and
injuries, do appropriate exercise, avoid
acidic foods and drinks, can also be
beneficial.

Sorry your finger and hand aren't getting
better. I wonder anything under
"emergency gout treatments" section in http://www.Icuredmygout.Org can
be helpful to your condition. Take care.
