1 year post hysterectomy bleeding
Posted: 02-02-08 23:13pm

I was so glad to come across this page. I am 38 and 1 year post hysterectomy - removed uterus and cervix. I fought fibroids for years, even tried UAE and finally gave in. The first 6 months seemed to go well but then I started belleding after sex again. I don't bleed every time - sometimes it's only a little pink on the tissue paper and other times it red and last until morning and I have pain - almost cramp like - all day. I also bleed vaginally when I strain even a little during a bowel movement. One other strange thing - very hard to explain - I am very active and often it feels as though things are "loose" in the area where my uterus was. It doesn't hurt a lot, it's more of an annoyance and it feels as though something inside that area is missing its support. If I were to imagine a cross section line from the vagina straight up it would be the right side of the vaginal wall where the pain is and the in that area and a little deeper where the odd, void, loose feeling is.

I wish I could explain it better - that is why I haven't gone in to see my doctor - it just sounds to wierd to me and I can't seem to find the right words to explain it so I've just chalked that, the bleeding and mildly painful sex up to post hysterectomy life - anyone else?

Bleeding 9 months post op
Posted: 02-04-08 19:06pm

I see that I am not alone. I had spotting today after intercourse. Seems like some other ladies have as well, but I had actual clotting as well. It also felt like menstrual cramps. I had only a partial with just the removal of my uterus. I was very eager to get rid of my faulty oven, VERY! I have three beautiful children, but progressively over the years my periods just seem to be horrific. Double over in pain every month. My doctor told me he had never seen someone so excited for surgery. Needless to say afterward I had never felt better,I've actually lost 35 pounds in 9 months! Today was a slight flashback that I never expected to ever feel again. Hopefully the doctor will shed some light on why this is happening. I will post on what the doctor says and hopefully give a definitive answer to help some of you out.

I am 5 months post-hysterectomy and am still spotting
Posted: 02-13-08 18:58pm

I can't believe so many people have this problem!! I feel slightly relieved, but at the same time, I would really like to know what is causing this to happen. I had a balloon ablation in May 17th, 2007, then when that did not help, I had my uterus and part of my cervix removed on Sept. 6 2007. I still spot once a month though. I don't have sex, so I know that is not what's causing me to bleed. I don't strain myself in anyway. If anything, I have gotten fat from sitting on my butt all the time because I fear bleeding. I have had 3 C-Sections, and had my tubes tied during the last one in '04. My doctor told me these things have nothing to do with my spotting. I don't usually bleed enough to need a pad, but occasionally I do have blood clots, which concerns me. Before I had any of these proccedures done, I had very heavy bleeding, to the point where I would have to wear two pads (overnight ones to be exact) at a time, and it would still bleed down my leg within a matter of minutes, but they couldn't find anything wrong with me during my ultrasound. That vaginal ultrasound was very painful. I laid there crying my eyes out, it hurt so bad. I still have pain in the area of one of my ovaries, but they didn't want to take them out because they said I am too young. (30). No one seems to have any answers though. The only thing my doctor offered to tell me that bleeding could be caused by an infection, which I have been seen twice, and had one each time, one from my surgery, and one because I am prone to Strep in my lady areas, that they say is normal, and doesn't affect anything, and is not caused by anything. So I don't get it, any of it.

Bleeding with discharge
Posted: 02-18-08 14:36pm

Wow, I'm glad to have found this site. Believe it or not my hysterectomy was a year and a half ago with no complications until about a few months ago. I started having yeast infection type symptoms and found out that I didn't have a yeast infection. I was so worried that I even had test for every STD and AIDS because I wasn't sure what was going on. (sorry to tell everything) Then I started spotting. Well my doctor finally sent me to a Gyno and she said that since my ovaries were not removed that it's normal to bleed. I don't understand why it took over a year to start doing this. Also, I have a discharge that is causing irritation on legs. The gyno said there doesn't seem to be an instant answer for me and gave me some antibotic steroid cream to use for a month. It honestly doesn't seem to be working and the complications seem to be getting more and more bothersome. I wish I had a clearer understanding of this. Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Thanks

2 years problem free and now many issues
Posted: 03-02-08 14:44pm

i had a partial hysterectomy 2 years ago and i have had absolutley no trouble. now i am having all sorts of trouble. i have been spotting and cramping.( feels like the getting your period type) and it happens whether i have sex or not. i also am having a lot of lower back pain, although i suppose it could be unrelated. the doctor who did my surgery is no longer around and the new one i went to hadnt even heard of being able to just take the uterus. we argued in her office and i finally told her to look for herself. she did, found i had no uterus but still had everything else and was baffled, so she sent me on my way. i have heard all sorts of things from its a mini period to std's. i had a full work up on std's and have been cleared.. so now what? am i able to still have a mini period? why did it not happen for 2 years? should i be afraid? if anyone has any light to shed please do, thanks

pain with bowel movement after hysterectomy
Posted: 03-19-08 19:43pm

Heya, I know this is not the best thing to say but I am glad that there are others out there who have the same problems and I am not alone. I had a hysterectomy 2 weeks ago. have had 2 surgeries in space of 4 mths. Even prior to surgery have had pain just before and with BM. I still have the pain now. It paralyses me. i cannot move for about a minute or 2. Once the pain subsides I'm ok again. My doc found lesions on the wall of the tummy and colon. I also had cysts removed from both my ovaries. I was freaking out because my mum had ovarian cancer and my dad had colon cancer but I feel at ease now, knowing that it is also experienced by others. Apart from the pain with BM, I am still bleeding and still have terrible abdominal pain. A heat pack does wonders but I am waiting for the day when I would be pain free.
So keep posting any advise you may have on how to ease the pain.

post op ileus
Posted: 05-10-08 16:47pm

I am coming up on 3 weeks post op. I had a partial hysterectomy ( uterus and my right tube only. The experience in a nutshell-- a nightmare!!! I was told at first that I may have had a heart attack and then had pulmonary emboli. I was sent to an ICU step down unit put on monitors ahd IV's everywhere tests after test and all concluded I was fine. They had no explaination as to why I had a rapid decrease in B/P . I was in sever pain and refused to continue with morpheine. Probably a good thing as it turns out the excruciating pain was caused by a post op ileus. You can't pass your gas, you can't move your bowels essentially you feel as if you are going to explode. I still have unexplained bleeding however the doctor seems to be unaffected by this. I am very much alarmed . We know our bodies better than anyone and when something doesn't feel right. most likely it isn't. I do however take some comfort in knowing i am not alone. It is sad to think I had this procedure done to stop bleeding and yet I still go on.

That is what we are here for. Support and sharing our experiences, and hopefully get some answers. I am 4 1/2 months posthysterectomy. So far, everything is good. I had everything removed uterus, cervix, ovaries, and tubes. I don't know if removing the ovaries makes a difference or not.

Do you still see your gyn for annual checkups? Maybe you could mention it at your next visit?

6 weeks, 3 days post-op

Hi everyone,
So glad that I found this site. Sorry to hear that everyone is having the same problems that I'm having, yet relieved at the same time.
I called my doctor and told them that I have had to use pads due to heavy bleeding. They wouldn't see me until my appointment on July 15. Craziness is what it is.
For everyone who is having BM issues...use a stool softener, it will help. The name brand is Colace, but store brand works just as well.
I spoke with my pastors wife who had a complete hysterectomy, she hasn't had issues with bleeding. I had only my uterus and cervix removed. The bleeding is driving me crazy, which is the whole point of having the surgery.
