I got sick (like a bad head cold, not
quite the flu) over the new year holiday.
I had the symptoms of what seemed to be a
sinus infection, so I went to my
physician.
He put me on a 10 day run of amoxicillin.
Towards the end of that I started to feel
better, almost to 100%. No more than two
days afterwards I started getting an
irritated throat again.
I went back to the doctor and he put me on
allegra-d (i have mild allergies and he
thought this might clear me up. It is
working very well on my sinuses (i have no
blockage when i'm on the medication, but I
will blow my nose in the morning and its
still that infected green color).
This was last week, and now I have a very
strange throat problem. It seems like
once every other day or so I get a sharp
pain in my throat when swallowing (not
with food, slightly less with a drink).
The pain was strictly on the right side of
my throat, right around the adams apple.
My tonsils are always a little on the
large side, especially the right one. One
night the pain 'jumped' to the other side
and it was very! Painful.
I've been told it could be anything from a
bacterial infection that didn't completely
go away, something viral, glandular
problems, or messed up tonsils. Ibuporfin
helps a bit with the pain.
Anyone have any ideas of what might be
causing this? It will be a couple days
before I can get another appointment.
Basically this is not unbearable but very
annoying, and its been around for a few
weeks already! Thank you.

I have this same problem right
now...Almost every time I swallow I feel
this sharp sensation in the right side of
my throat...Ive had this for like 2 months
already and it isn't getting any
better...I haven't mentioned this to my
doctor yet but im planning on it. I also
have allergies once in a while and it gets
really bad with sneezing and what
not..Maybe it has to do with the allergies
but I have no idea...Message back if
you've figured this out..

Ah thanks for bringing up bad memories!
:p
if I can remember correctly, the problem
just up and went away on its own in about
two days. I am thinking it was a
bacterial infection that was helped by a
little bit of allergies. I know a lot of
people's (and mine) allergies are starting
to act up lately.
I would go to the doctor just in case...In
addition to drinking tons of water, advil
helped, and I also started light exercise
everyday and tried getting as much sleep
as possible.

Stig,
i have the exact same symptoms as you.
I was initially told I had some kind of
infection of the ear and throat, it
cleared up with antibiotics, and the day
after I finished it came back.
Now for the last two months i've had a
sharp pain each time I swallow liquids.
Solid food does not hurt to swallow. The
pain seems to coming from behind the
uvula, and around that fold of skin near
the tonsils. The pain will shift every
so often.
Recently, I noticed i've been clearing my
throat a lot. Sometimes I am able to
clear my throat, and I actually feel mucus
loosen up in the area that it hurts.
I've seen several doctors and one
specialist, and am going to see another
one. The best answer i've gotten is that
it may be postnasal drip.
A reply would be greatly appreciated,
please let me know if you're doing
better~
