Need Help!!! Side Effects of Adderall
Posted: 01-31-05 07:42am

I am a coach and I have just been informed that one of my players is abusing adderall. I need to know the possible side effects and possible dangers of this drug. He takes it before every practise and game, even now sometimes before school. Before I talk with his parents I would like to know more about the dangers and side effects. Any other pertinent info would also help.

Thanks.

Adderall is prescribed for add and adhd. It's a stimulant drug that is (actually) commonly abused. It tends to make the user feel euphoric, 'overstimulated', nervous/anxious, energetic, restless, etc.

It is habit forming and addictive. It's not something to mess around with.

Other side effects are weight loss, insomnia, dizziness, high blood pressure, increased heart rate, and ....Even death.

It's effects can be compared to those of ritalin.

'adderall is a reformulated version and close cousin of the adhd medication dexedrine. Dextroamphetamine (adderall, dexedrine) is classified as schedule ii controlled substance, a classification given to medical drugs with the highest abuse potential and dependence profile.'

Adderall Addiction

Our son was prescribed adderall when he was in 5th grade or 6th to counteract adhd. He couldn't sleep and lost so much weight that his doctor eventually took him off the medication.

He is now almost 19.

He is now severely addicted to adderall and has spent the last 6 months in juvenile lockup. He returned home for a week, got in trouble for attempting to obtain more adderall and now is in adult jail.

Our son's story is a sad one and he had problems before his introducion to adderall but the drug has taken over his life and made all of lives pretty miserable at times.

Please do what you can to address this situation.
