Hi, my nephey had meningitis when he was 7 month old. Now hes is 6 years old but his speach is delayed and he is late in mental development. We are concerned about what to do to help him develop. Anyone with a similar situation?

Hi my son had meningitis when he was 12 weeks old which has left him with cerebal palsy and epelepsy he is 6 years old now and though it was hard work it is worth it the only advice I can give is to treat him no diffrently than you would any other child his age do not make any allowance for any disabilitie he may have as kids pick up on this yes he may have to be pushed that little bit harder but with the right therapy he should lead a normal life good luck it is a hard road. You do,nt say where yyou are from in england they have a very good portage service which helps with mental development and lots of lights we used christmas tree lights they help to stimulate the mind. It may be worth getting his hearing tested and his eyesight. Did he suffer any seizures when he had meningitis?

It is a viral infection in the mengins in the brain and is 90% of the time fatal my boy was very lucky even with the problems it left him with.

If I am correct, my bf had spinal menegitis (sp) when he was a baby and it left him w/ no hearing in his left ear. But as far as anything else, hes good. Helped me make two gorgeous lil boys.
