Scoliosis, Should I See a Chiropractor? Posted: 02-02-05 13:09pm
I was diagnosed with scoliosis about 7
years ago, when I was in middle school.
I started having lower back pain once I
got in high school and began cheerleading
and got a job. My back doctor said it
was because of my posture, just to
concentrate on how I sit and stand. I
have been working on that for a few years,
even went to rehab to learn good
excercises. I am now in my 2nd year of
college and still having reoccuring back
pain. My back doctor said he didn't
think seeing a chiropractor would help,
but I am very curious to get some other
opinions. Many of my friends said that
medical doctors just don't like
chiropractors, and that I should try it
anyways. Anyone have any advice on
whether visiting a chiropractor would be
worth the money?

Honestly, for the problem you have I
cannot see how one of those people could
possibly be of any help to you. If you
found one that would actually agree to
touch you, I would run as fast as I could
away from them because curvature of the
spine is a surgical thing not a bone
cracking thing and I just fear for anyone
that outs their health in the hands of a
chiropractor.
You need to see an orthopedic spine
surgeon and see what they say for you to
do. Yes, all doctors and also all
chiropractors are in business to make
money but imo doctors are also in the
business of fixing and hopng for final
results wheras chiropractors are built on
prolonged or even lifetime visits.
Please visit www.Spineuniverse.Com
to research for yourself. This website
has both doctors and chiropractors on it,
that site will answer 90% of all the
questions you have. Scoliosis is a very
hard thing to live with but you can do it
with the proper treatment and imo
chiropractic is absolutly the wrong form
of treatment.
Hope this helps,
tama brian :)

Try physical therapy . . . Depending on
how severe your scoliosis, it may help.

I Have Severe Scoliosis Posted: 01-12-07 20:13pm
Hello blondiegirl,
i can definitely relate to you on the
pain. I discovered I had scoliosis in
elementary school. Obviously my parents
didn't know how serious it was cause they
did nothing about it. When I reached
middle school I began to see a orthopedic
who wanted to fit me for a back brace. I
really didn't want it because of peer
pressure etc. So I never went back.
After playing around for awhile my
insurance lapsed. Now that i'm older I
wish I had gotten that brace because I
probably wouldn't be having the pain i'm
having now. Since i'm an adult now the
brace will not do me any justice and
besides that my doctors say my scoliosis
is the worse they have ever seen my spine
looks like a perfect s almost. I'm
currently seeing a neurosurgeon whose
keeping an eye out on things because my
spine is curving towards my lungs and they
want to make sure nothing will go wrong.
I had x-rays in 1999,2001, and 2006 seems
like my spine is the same (thank god).
The doctor before him said I may have to
consider surgery but he wanted a second
opinion. My new doctor says he doesn't
see anything seriously wrong and doesn't
see the need for surgery unless i'm
worried about the cosmetics of the whole
thing. As for the pain I take naprosyn
(pain reliever) or if it's really bad I
take flexeril (muscle relaxer).

You should see chiro. But the problem is
that most of them have poor skills. Also
pts are usually a waste of money. Good
ones are difficult to find...

Massage Posted: 01-19-07 15:10pm
Maybe you should try to get massage on a
regular basis. It will help to lengthen
the muscles that are shortened etc. If
money is an issue, there are massage
schools that usually have clinics. Each
state is different. I know in the state
of wa students are required to have so
many clinic hours. The massage is cheaper
and the student gets to practice. The
instructor is there to help assist.
Scoliosis is either structural or
muscular.

Hello,
i have a scoliosis as well.
Well I saw a doctor patow or so in january
in new york. He is hungarian and he just
was a guest to the usa. He did his
therapy, a special kind of deblocking of
the spine to me. Since than I can move a
lot better. I still have some pain and
some head arch. But doctor patow told me
that is normal, because I moved in a wrong
way for many years.
I will defenitly see him , when he comes
to the usa again.

Andrea and tama said it best. Do you have
any knowledge of what your talking about?
:d massage will have no effect. I
personally beleive chiropracters are just
quacks, and if its a neuromuscular of
minor condition than a pyhsical therapist
will often provide at least some benefit.
But yes unfortunately surgery is the most
successfull obviously.
