Back Pain From Weird Tumor Posted: 02-03-05 01:29am
Hello,
i have an unusual lipoma "like" tumor on
my back that is causing pain in my back
muscles. It shows up on an mri as fat,
but it is causing pain. I haven't had a
deferential mri done et however. It
starts in the middle of my back, it is
about 7 to 8 inches across and runs all
the way down my back into the butt region.
It would be very hard to find because it
is flat. The only way I know it is there
is because it has covered up my spine.
It is of lipoma "like" consistency, but is
not protruding from the body. It is
making the surrounding muscles go into
spasms. Does anyone have any idea what
this could be? Several doctors have seen
it over the last 4 years and have not even
blinked at it because they didn't see it.
Most people when looking at it forget
that you should be able to see where the
spine is. :roll:
the doctor I went to last week is really
confused as to why no other doctor has
seen it. Especially since I thought I
had a back injury from the desk at work
and have been seeing workmans comp.
Doctors for the past 2 years. I didn't
know that this thing was on my back. I
mean, I found a lump about 1 1/2 x 1 1/2
about 4 years ago and was told it was a
lipoma. But, this thing isn't acting
like a lipoma or looking like one.
Any clues? :roll:

I would be living at the doctors office!
I would be wanting answers and solutions
asap!
You will probably have to see an
endocrinologist along with either an
orthopedic spine surgeon or a neurologist.
It sounds as though this is an agressive
tumor/cyst and because it is debilitating
and potentially morbid, I would not allow
2005 to pass without removal or at least a
huge plan for what will be done with it/

Yes, I am waiting to see what this new
doctor says, but I cannot take up all of
his time. He is a very good doctor who
takes his patients seriously and listens
to them.
It has been there for over 4 years, so I
can wait a little longer without freaking
out on the doctor. (although I am
freaking out inside becase no other doctor
has taken it seriously) it is not a
perfect circular form under the skin.
It is off balance when palpated. I've
been trying to find anything on the web
about it, but so far nothing fits.
