What is the mechanism that causes a person with hypertriglyceridemia [as a result of type 2 dm] to develop acute pancreatitis?

Exact mechanism is not known but it is believed that hyperlipidemia somehow activates the pancreatic enzymes while still in the pancreas, before secreted in tho the intestines.

Hi,

My father is a type 2 diabetic and is now on artificial sweetener called Sweet Sprinkles. What I would like to know if it is ok for him to take that in replacement of sugar? By the way, my father is now 79 yrs old. Thanks.
