Am I Being Over-medicated?
Posted: 02-04-05 06:51am

Am I being over-medicated for something that might/seems to be normal for my type and is hereditary in my family?

I am 58 but live life like a 21 y/o and spend most of my time in/on/under the sea.

I was healthy before I went to my doc and had a blood test that (says he) "would have won the oscar" except for blood pressure which tested (several times) at about 140/90 a year ago. I felt no symptoms but after increased medication (coversylplus 4/1.25) for more than two months now, my bp is normal but I am not getting the sleep i've always had because of the urge to pee all night!

can anyone identify with this?

Get a second opinion if you are unsure. Doctors make mistakes. If you definitely have high blood pressure and want a natural drug with no side effects, then order some clean heart and some noni juice.
I have a friend who is tired of the side effects and is going to natural products.

I do suggest a second opinion. I know there are several different medications to take for hbp if you are not happy with the one you are taking now.

Do I Really Need Blood Pressure Medication?
Posted: 11-15-07 17:04pm

I am a 66 year old male in excellent physical condition. I recently moved to a different state and my new doctor was aghast that my previous doctor had never put me on medication. Yes, it was almost always up in his office but he had me monitor it at home and my home readings were much lower. When my new doctor took the reading, it was very high (160\102). I showed him a print-out of my home readings and told him my other doctor finally accepted that I was the classic case of white-coat hypertnesion but he basically told me that the only readings that were valid are the ones that HE took in his office and that I should not bother with home monitoring. He put me on two kinds of medication and recommended that I double my Lipitor dosage. Since taking the BP medication, I have been extremely fatiqued, falling asleep in afternoon in mid-sentence during a discussion. My Protonix is no longer effective in preventing indigestion and I have muscle pain and cramps. My home BP readings are now consistantly in the range of 108\72 to 92\62. I just checkjed it ... 86\64. I am considering the need to seek a second opinion. Any suggestions?

CWayneD, your doctor sounds pompous. I hate doctors like that. I also have white coat hypertension, and always have a high reading in the doctors office. When taking it at home, it's always normal.
Trust your instincts and get off the meds as soon as possible. I was put on Protonix before and all I had were bad side effects from it. I quit taking it and never looked back. Wink

I am 50, I take Raw organic apple cider vinegar(ACV) 2-3 times a day with water and liquid stevia. It naturally lowers bp, by helping thin the blood. I found a natural alternative to meds called Blood Pressurex sold by theherbsplace.com. It costs a bit more than regular meds, but no side effects, and it does it all, lowers bp very well.

For JohnA, it sounds like you are on a powerful diuretic if it keeps you awake with frequent trips to the bathroom.
You were healthy before you went to the doctor, so why did you go? All they want to do is prescribe pills all the time. A lot of people are taking meds that shouldn't be taking them. All because a doctor said so.

A really good book to get is one I found at amazon last month. Called:
"Prescription Alternatives. Hundreds of safe, natural, prescription-free remedies to restore and maintain your health. By Earl L. Mindell.
It's a really good book and for whatever ailment/disease you've been diagnosed with by a doctor, it lists all the alternatives and a treatment plan at the end of each chapter. Check it out, you will not be sorry.
