Need Wisdom Teeth Pulled No Insurance!!!!! Posted: 02-04-05 22:32pm
Hi I brush my teeth very regularly and I
use mouth wash alot as well but my two
wisdom teeth on the bottom both got
cavities in them and are progressively
getting worse.. So im thinking ok so I
need to get them pulled. They are both
all the way in so I am wondering, with no
insurance what is this going to cost me
per tooth to get them pulled. And is it
considered a root canal or called a tooth
extraction or what is it because I am
looking into getting some dental insurance
so im looking for the best fit.. Thank
you in advance!!!

You are looking at about 600 dollars in
surgery without general anestesia. With
the added sleep you can figure 1500
dollars. If you can hang on or come up
with a payment plan where you pay for the
anesthesia first and then slowly pay for
the tooth extractions. That is how I
would recommend doing it. I would also
take the chance to get all 4 out while
under the anesthesia!
Note: I am terrified of the dentist and
pay for general anesthesia for even
regular root canals! It is something the
good ole us navy did to me. They were
basically standing on my chest to get 1/2
of one wisdom tooth out and the nerve
blocks done on the inferior alveoler
(bottom jaw nerve) do not work on me for
what ever reason and I was transported
from boone naval medical/dental clinic to
portsmouth naval medical hospital by
ambulance to have the other 3 1/2 wisdoms
done under full general anesthesia. I
spen 2 days in the hospital and it could
have all be eliviated had they listened to
me and put me to sleep to begin with.
I totally believe you need to have your
wisdoms extraced but I also believe you
sould do everything you can to be knocked
out. :)

I Have to Disagree With Tamadrummer Posted: 05-12-05 02:14am
Fortunately in recent month me and my
spouse have had to visit dental
specialist.
Today I went to a oral surgeon to have all
my wisdom teeth remove and two of them
were impacted with one of them a bony
vertical impaction. I have insurance
which is not very helpful for major
work.
It was an extremely painless, 0 trauma
work. I have been extremely satisifed
with everything.
I was given iv (general anesthesia). Even
the iv didn't hurt, becuase thay had some
spray which made my skin so cold I
couldn't feel the needle being inserted in
me. I have absoltely no recollection of
what was done. Infact immediate after
that I went to costco to pick up
prescription and I don't remember things I
did or said. Between the time of start of
iv and my first slee, I remember very
little things.
Without insurance the whole thing costed
me $950., with 20% discount for
dentalselect insurance $740, if they
accept it.
Plus thge medication prescribed lortab,
which makes the post surgical time
painless and better.
Remember after removal, eat extremely
soft foods, without chewing, if you have
to use front teeth. Do not suck, if you
have stitches it hurts (i did that once by
mistake). No eating hot foods, use some
ice packs regularly and don't gargle
(swish rinse). Do this you might end up
with a dry socket, whcih can be very
painful. I am hoping I won't have one.
If you want to know, I went to smoot
center (dr. Smoot oral surgeon). I don;t
have price estimates in florida. But I
would recommdn going to roal surgeon,
because they specialize in this stuff. If
he/she is a good doctor, they will call
for an initial exam, check you panoramic
x-rays, give you special insructions and
documentation and give you an estimate.
I had a very pleasant experience with it.
I am a student, it costed with close to
$800, it is worth every penny I spent.
Removal of wisdom teeth does not have to
be a traumatic experience, especially now
a days.

Am I Getting Ripped Off? Posted: 05-20-05 10:38am
I'm getting all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out.
The top 2 are simple extractions
1 of the bottom ones is a "surgical
extraction".
The last one is partially impacted.
I am just doing local anesthesia.
The total price is $900. Ins. Is
covering half.
I live in a small city where the cost of
living is about average compared to other
mid-sized metro areas.
Am I getting ripped off or does this price
sound about right?
I'm going to law school in the fall and am
desperately trying to save money for the
move. $450 out of pocket isn't helping
the cause but I know it needs to be done
before I go to school. I just want to
make sure i'm not paying more than I have
to.
Thx!

If you have a university which includes a
school of dental surgery in your area, you
may be able to have it done there at
minimal cost. That's how I had mine done
many years ago. All four were impacted,
but I had it done under local anasthetic
-- but that is surgical local, not
ordinary dental local. I didn't feel a
thing. They also gave me a shot of valium
because I was extremely nervous. I guess
it was a final year dental surgeon student
or something who did it, but he was
totally competent, and I didn't even have
any swelling after the surgery. I took
two days off, because I was on
painkillers, and when I went back to
classes no one believed i'd just had all
my wisdom teeth out.

Sounds Like You Need Extractions Posted: 06-30-05 19:19pm
If the teeth can be pulled out - as
apposed to cut out - then it's a job
anybody with a shot of novicain and the
right tool can do. Any dental student
could do it. They just grab it with this
plier-like tool and wiggle it until it
comes out.
I don't know anything about the whole
surgical thing, why they do it, etc,
except I know they remove it surgically
when it hasn't grown in. I don't know
why else they would do it surgically.
Go and get an exame at your local dental
school and at least they can tell you
there what you need.

denture made here in nc and it only costed
me 1645.00 and thats without insurance he
only charges 75 per tooth to pull them and
100.00 to cut them out.
