Needle Question

I know theres 2 types of back shots...
-epidural, that numbs you from the waist down.
-spinal block, that numbs you from the neck down.

Did anyone watch birth stories with the 2 older women yesterday?
One had a c-section, and she got this weird shot, it wasnt a epidural...
They did the needle thing, then held the hole open with a little metal cone looking thing, and then shot the cold medicine in there, then taped it, but there was no catheter afterwards.
I was wondering if that was a spinal block, for the c-section?

So if you get a c-section, you get a spinal?
And if you go vaginally, you get the epidural?

I didn't see that show. But, you're right about when each procedure is done.

Is that as effective as an epidural? Will it numb you?

When I had my son I had a choice of an epidural or demerol. Demerol was only going to take the edge off. I'm deathly scared of needles so the thought of a needle in my back was scarey but I went for the epidural anyway--best thing I ever did. Numbness wore off after a little while after my son was born & it felt like there was a bruise on my back where it was but that's nothing compared to what I would've felt if I didn't get it.

I got demerol with my first baby...Bad decision. Absolutely no pain relief and I was high as kite. I had no control over my body to help myself with the pain. I was worse than if I wouldn't have had anything at all. Idk why they give that.
